Carrotus Maximus: I used 3 Shimmering Snails (H/P) with Ooze Touch, Shell Shield, Dive.
Started with Shell Shield, then Dive and filld with Ooze Touch untill Dive was ready again. Keept Shield up at all time.

Gorefu: I used 2 Gilnean Raven, with Peck, Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike.
Start with Peck, then Call Darkness and Nocturnal Strike.
(I had a Moth backup, but never got to that)

Gnawface: I used 3 Flayer Youngling (P/P) with Triple Snap, Focus, Rampage.
Started out with Focus, then Rampage and Triple Snap to Flayer died. Next Flayer: same as first.
I never used the 3. one.

This was originally for those in Beta, but since many are finding it useful now that the game is live I have updated it to include more information for those still using it.

I was having some issues getting these guys down (well just Gorefu) in Beta. I really don't battle pets. Mainly collect them. So this was a pain, and there wasn't a lot of information. Plus what information I did find was limited to what pets I did have. I know most these pets you can easily get either from holidays or the AH if not from the proper drops.

Your Garrison must be level 3 for your to receive the quest for this. It is also a good idea to have your battle pets to level 25, but having some 23-24 should still work since they "pests" have been nerfed, and are no longer boss levels.. If you aren't one to level or battle pets, here's a good guide to get you started on leveling some of them up. I know there are other guides, but most require you to already have maxed level pets or already be pretty deep into pet battling to use.

Gnawface: didn't even get to my 3rd pet. Him being so easy may have been a bug.

Gorefu: tried all types of combinations of 3 fliers from the crows/ravens to 3 moths. Nothing worked until this team, and killed him first try.

REAL CHEAP VERSION

So I have done this on a few more characters, and with the nerf from Blizzard to these guys seem to be a ~~bit~~ lot easier. So I have found some easy to get pets for these fights, and are some you may want to consider having leveled and Rare of for future battles.

Gnawface: Took a level 25 Arctic Fox Kit. This one is a bit harder to get because he is in one zone and it needs to be snowing, but well worth getting. Had a Darkshore Cub and Fluxfire Feline on backup.

Dazzling Dance > Howl > Bite until Gnawface was dead.

Carrotus Maximus: I only needed one level 25 frog. I had the Jungle Dart. Had a Skimmer and Crab on backup.

Frog Kiss > Cleanse Rain > Water Jet until Carrotus Maximus was dead.

Gorefu: Finally got a moth to work! Only needed my level 24 (common) Ashwing Moth. Other two were Luyu and Skywisp moths.

Alpha Strike > Cocoon > Moth Balls until Gorefu is dead.

Hopefully this help those of you that don't want to farm or pay a ton for battle pets then level 9+ of them to complete this.

BETA ONLY INFO BELOW

If your pets didn't get copied over from live use the "Copy Character" > "Copy Account Data" on the character select screen.

Also in Beta, swing by the trainer (in Stormwind it's Audrey Burnhep - in Orgimmar it's Varzok) there is a Tauren, Pet Battleaur, next to both that sells Mythical Battle-Pet Stones for 1g (Unlimited charges boost level 25), Flawless Battle-Stonesx5 50s (boost to rare), Battle Pet Bandagesx25 50s, and Elekk Plushie 1g. To help you boost your pets to levels and quality to beat these bosses.

Hope this helps someone while in Beta who might have also been stumped.

As of Live:
To unlock this quest, you must be lvl 100, as well as have your garrison upgraded to lvl 3. Hope this helps.

Forget everything and just use Pandaren Water Spirit and Chrominius (and a third pet can be whatever)

1. Pandaren Water Spirit : Geyser -> Whirlpool -> Swap pet
2. Chrominius : Howl -> Surge of Power
3. Whatever is left of your oponnent, do it.

Worked on every enemy. Only had to heal my pets once.

Killed Carrotus Maximus with only 1 pet (Spotted Bell Frog - 25 H/B). Did Frog Kiss constantly, then Cleansing Rain whenever the Carrot turned into a Frog.

I did this with 1.5 pet:

For first pet, use a pet with Flock, such as Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling, in order to increase base damage. Keep using Flock until pet dies.
Then use Miniwing with Nocturnal Strike and for final hit use Peck.

So I literally just did Pets vs Pests for my boyfriend with pets that I could cage just so I could take notes and share. All the pets listed come rare by default and are "fairly" easy to get.

vs Gnawface, Gorefu:

2x Zandalari Raptors (can do it with one if you don't get a miss or bad crit) with Black Claw, Hunting Party.
Keep up Black Claw > Hunting Party. If your first raptor dies, swap to the next one.

Zandalari Raptors drop off Trolls on the Isle of Giants. It doesn't matter which ones you use since they're the same, just with some skills moved around a bit. The two I used are P/P breeds.

vs Carrotus Maximus:

1x Pandaren Water Spirit (Whirlpool, Geyser)
1x Chrominius (Howl, Surge of Power)
Start with Water Spirit. Geyser > Whirlpool > Swap to Chrominius > Howl (Geyser & Whirlpool go off for double damage and stun Carrotus) > Surge of Power.

Pandaren Water Spirit comes from the Pandaren Spirits dailies in Pandaria. After you do the first round (which lets you pick which spirit you want), he will only come from the Pandaren Water Spirits pet bag.

Chrominius is a drop off of Chromaggus in Blackwing Lair.

Right, im having a problem with this quest.. i completed it while waiting for my t2 garrison to upgrade to t3 (didn't realize you didn't have to wait) so upon handing the quest in i went to do a heroic and when i came back it had upgraded to t3. however it says a quest is required for menagerie to unlock.. after running a script somebody linked me. it does indeed say i ahve done the quest however my garrison refuses this! if anyone has any suggestions i'd be happy to try and reply ^_^ not waiting for 11 days for a responce from GM's

Gorefu was the toughest by far of the pests.

If you don't have the particular pets recommended, you can cheese him with a Critter/ Apocalypse and just run down the clock with survival cd's.

I easily killed Gorefu using just a Clockwork Gnome and Chrominius. Open with the clockwork gnome by building a turret>blitz>blitz again>then put up another turret. By this point your gnome is probably dead so break out Chrominius. Use howl>bite>surge of power. By now Gorefu sohuld be dead or else very close to it at which point anything will kill him.

Personal favorite combos to clear these are.

Carrotus: Start with Pandaren Water Spirit and lay out the classic Geyser and Whirlpool. Switch to Chrominius and use Howl and finish with Surge of Power

Gnawface: Arctic Fox Kit or just any pet that can drop Howl the turn he dies. Send out a spider that can use Brittle Webbing first then Spiderling Swarm and watch him drop dead

Gorefu: Chi-Chi or any pet with a Wild Magic type effect then switch her out for a Crow and use Murder.

Faceroll each time with these combos.

So I like using pets ANYONE can find easily and level easily so this is what I used.

Carrotus Maximus: Any frog with Frog Kiss followed by cleansing rain when frog form is active *repeatedly* (third shot should be water jet just in case cleansing rain hasn't had time for cooldown, water jet has a boost against this guy too). Do this till he dies before swapping.

In second position any Strider or Dancing Water Skimmer with Pump and Cleansing Rain, same concept pump cleansing rain, pump cleansing rain, etc.

I didn't need my third pet but I used Emperor Crab with Whirlpool, Renewing Mist, and Surge. All strong against this guy and easy pets to get and worked great!

Gnawface: Start with any fox with Howl and Dazzling Dance, cast Dazzling Dance, you may have time for one cast of Bite but if your health is below 500 jump right to Howl (make sure howl is cast right before death!). Cast Howl and fox should die next hit.

In second position I used Kun-Lai-Runt, cast Rampage. That should be the end of the fight. Third pet doesn't matter.

Gorefu: Use any moth, or three of them. Defeated this guy with, not even kidding, 1 Oasis Moth and he still had half his health when the battle was over. Start with Moth Dust, followed by Cocoon Strike, then while those cool down hit with Alpha Strike. Repeat. Easy as pie.

I didn't have many capped pets so my selection was limited but I won with Ethereal Soul-Trader (Life Exchange is OP), Spectral Porcupette(Spectral Spine then Spectral Spike), and Kun-Lai Runt (Frost Shock chills, Deep Freeze stuns the chilled, then Takedown deals double damage to the stunned.) Kun-Lai Runt was the MVP for damage. I beat Gorefu and the Carrot with this team. I switched Spectral for Clockwork Gnome for the rat fight and switched Kun-Lai's abilities to the ones that do extra critter damage. You can find that info on the tooltip when picking abilities. Good luck!

I cannot beat the carror with any pets. he does 333 damage each turn which also casts a 159 reduced damage buff on him.

what is the trick? my frogs, striders, and crabs all die super fast and the carrot heals as well.

The other side of the coin:

If you are not a pet battler, you won't be able to do this quest. I know, it doesn't seem right somehow because pets are for... pet people. If you're not one, don't worry - it doesn't make you an alien or a bad person. Just pass on this quest.

If you don't do pet battles and just want to be rid of the icon you can accept the quest and then stop tracking it (not abandon!).

It takes up a quest log spot to do this, but it's a small price to pay until I get around to leveling up a pet. :)(##RESPBREAK##)290##DELIM##Jerek##DELIM##

I can't get 'Architect' title because of this quest since I´m not a pet battle guy, seriously? They could make pets scale or have lower level since you are forced to unlock that building

Today instead of using the tried and true method for Gnawface of the below line-up:

Sunreaver Micro-Sentry - Fel Immolate and then Call Lightning
Zandalari Anklerender - Black Claw and then Hunting Party
Curious Wolvar Pup - Maul and then Bite until dead

I accidentally used the same line up for Gorefu:

Unborn Val'kyr (or if you don't have her Ghostly Skull) - Unholy Ascension
Pandaren Water Spirit - Geyser and then Whirlpool
Chrominius - Howl and then Surge of Power

And it worked. So there's another line-up for Gnawface that has the potential to defeat him in the pet battle! Good luck. :)

It seems that if you are level 100 and have a level 3 garrison this will unlock. Although after some testing if you have never started the Tamer quest from SW(Ally) or Org(Horde) to officially start your pet battling fun, you won't be able to start the Pets vs Pest quest. I hope this helps anyone looking to start pet battling.

In the new patch the pests are no longer boss-level and are easily taken down by an average team of pets.
FINALLY, it was annoying the crap out of me that there was a part of the garrison I couldn't get without wasting time on raising a competitive team.

In 6.1, even level 24 pets can take down these guys, if they have abilities that are strong against them. I used an Uncommon level 24 spider against the rat and he went down just fine without losing my spider.

I was having such trouble with this, even using strategies like the frog thing. I used a blue level 25 royal moth and beat all 3 without losing a pet. First turn used Moth Dust which put them to sleep. when they woke up I used counter spell, since my moth was faster it interrupted the turn. The rat was the only one that came close to defeating it and even then my other two would have made short work of him after.

The latest version of this quest only requires 3 pets: Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, a Frog with Frog Kiss, and a Zandalari (like knee or ankle) with Black Claw and Hunting Party.

For Gnawface, use the Micro-Senty - Fel Immolate, Call Lightning, then Haywire to kill.

For Carrotus, simply spam Frog Kiss with your chosen frog.

For Gorefu, start with Zandalari's Black Claw, then Hunting Party. You shouldn't need to use another ability.

In case anyone is confused why they can't find this quest in their new level 3 garrison, it's worth noting that the quest to collect the 'strange stone' in your mine is a prerequisite to this one now.

Since 6.1 released I found it simple on my alts to kill all 3 of them with just a level 25 Chrominius.

Just use Howl, Bite and Surge of Power, in that exact order for each battle.

Profit.

This is so simple now since the nerf. I took all 3 with a level 25 Dancing water strider H/B. Did all 3 fights without needing a pet bandage or needing to go back and heal my pets at the pet master. This is a walk in the park now..

PANDAREN WATER SPIRIT (1,2,2) owns this quest!
. - I have Chrominius (1,1,2) backing up, but I have used this strategy on my last 4 alts and I have not had to use him once.

Solo Pet Strategy:
You open with PANDAREN WATER SPIRIT (1,2,2)
Geyser, then
Whirlpool and spam
Water Jet twice - at which point the mob will die to the Geyser + Whirlpool combo.

Pro Tip: Though this solo strategy will kill each of the 3 mobs: Carrotus Maximus, Gorefu and Gnawface, you will need to heal your PWS between each fight by either using your Revive Battle Pets ability or by returning to Lio the Lioness.

Give it a try, I think you'll like the result!

This has been seriously nerfed.. when i first got lvl3 garrison i could not complete these battles. My friend went hunting for particular pets to complete it.. i have just completed it on 5 toons using random lvl 25 pets, my pets hit three times as hard as the bosses did.
No need to stress anymore.. if u have 3 level 25's you are fine.. i did find i needed a + against critter one for gnaw face.. however (i used an adder)

So I just did this today... And I defeated both Carrotus & Gorefu with a Lvl 21 Uncommon Royal Moth. Then Gnawface with the moth & a Lvl 23 Rare Clefthoof Runt. Just healed them at my stable master between fights. A lot easier then I anticipated.

Note: *If your pet has some type of sleeping attack use them! The sleep attack puts them to sleep almost every time used!

So i just used one pet to battle all three and I healed in between. What i did was use Nexus Whelping I spammed Mana Surge and that's all I needed. Hope this helps especially for all of those who don't have many lvl 25's to choose from and those who are on an alt account and just want to get it over with :-)

BTW for anyone wondering my whelping isn't blue he is green, I got tired of farming for blue and figured I could upgrade him later. haha

You can beat all three with just the use of a small frog. takes care of the carrot with very little effort. You can use other pets the soften up the other two and just use the rest of the fight. So when you receive you stone to level up any pet to 25 use it on a small frog.

Universal strategy which works against epic pets: Start with any bug or cockroach who cast apocalypse, than switch to pet with healing, dodge, flying, anything and wait 15 rounds. A bit dirty, but works fine.

It has been upgraded so it is green and should be easy to find for info on all 9 pets for your 3 teams. I only needed 3! I had done it so long ago on my main that I came here for a good strat for my alt and I certainly found one!

I thought someone might want to know the exact 3 pets I used in the #1 slot on each team because those pets solo'ed each of their fights.

My Frog that killed Carrotus Maximus was a Yellow Bellied Bullfrog, lvl 25, Breed P/P
It finished the fight with 1353 of 1562 Health left.
Get it: Pet Battle in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

My Fox that killed Gnawfae by himself was an Alpine Foxling, lvl 25, Breed P/B
When it was done, it had 894 of 1465 Health left
Get it: Pet Battle - Kun-Lai Summit.

Gorefu went down to my Yellow Moth, lvl 25, Breed P/P
When the fight ended it had 1070 of 1400 life left.
Get it: Sold in The Exodar by Sixx for 50 silver. I just LOVE its power at 341!

I chose Power over Speed for all 3 fights

This quest used to be a little challenging, its very trivial now if you just have 1 hard counter pet for an Aquatic, Elemental and Critter pet. Its possible now to one shot these former mini pet bosses.

Spam Creeping Ooze for all battles against these three pests. I think I would toss in one Acidic Goo on round two out of boredom, but I don't think it is needed.

I just used Ashwing Moth - Balance moth - Moth Dust, Cocoon Strike, Alpha Strike x2, another moth dust or alpha if anything left. Takes out all three easily, if unlucky on RNG you might have to heal once.

This got NERFED TO THE GROUND.
It can be done in 2 minutes with 1 single pet in 2-round battle without healing.
Just use Chrominius, round 1 Howl, round 2 Surge of Power. Done. Profit.

My maximum level pets when I did this quest were 11 and 13. ( I know, I've been lax in my pet battling)

I used the Marked Flawless Battle Stone to get my Terrible Turnip up to level 25 (he was 13) since even after the quest, I could use his Weakning Blow to go around the world and grab lower level pets in battles.

Since I was just fighting 1 level 25 at a time (no adds on these fights) I just needed to wear them down, so I used my other level 10 to 12 pets to round out the team with pets that had a bonus to attack those types.

A few pets died, but overall I was able to win pretty handily the first time around.

The best part about this quest is I now have a level 25 Terrible Turnip. =)

Can anybody explain to me what does it mean "requires level 98"? My alt is level 98, and can't get this quest because it requires garrison level 3, which is not obtainable till the relevant character is level 100. Doesn't this mean that this quest requires level 100 and not 98? How it's possible to know that some quest requires level 98 when you can't see it till you are level 100?

Won all three battles by just using Tesla Cannon & Primal Rage. :)

It seems that this quest is a good way to farm for pet XP for leveling. Just have your two usual steamrolling pets for the type and the pet you want to level and beat up the three pests in the Garrison. After you're done with them abandon the quest and take it again, this will respawn the pests. Each pet gives between 400-800 XP depending on pet level. As a bonus, you got Lio there for free pet heals, so heal up any time you need to in-between battles.

With this method it at least guarantees you predictable spawns and you can easily do the loop in less than 5 minutes. Of course this means that you won't get the menagerie on that character until the quest line is finished, but you can just have one character specifically for leveling this way.

Carrotus Maximus, Gorefu and Gnawface can be defeated with only one pet. The strategies for the opposing pet is always the same.

Selected Team:

Ikky	Savage Talon - Black Claw - Flock
Backup-Pet	no special requierement
Backup-Pet	no special requierement

Opposing pet enters the fight
Round 01 - Black Claw
Round 02 - Flock
Round 03 - Flock continues
Round 04 - Flock continues - opposing pet dies

If you want the quest over with, fast, here's what I did;

For Carrotus I used a frog like what was previously posted. Next 'toon I level through here I'll see if there's an aquatic that do this in 2 moves.

For Gnawface I used Xu-Fu. Moonfire, then Spirit Claws. Gnawface dead. 2 moves.

For Gorefu, I used the Crow. Call Darkness, then Nocturnal Strike. Gorefu dead. 2 moves.

Just use Chrominius for all 3 fights (Howl then Surge of Power). You won't even need to heal in between.

Description

I've been trying to get this place ready for your pets, but we've uncovered some rude pests while building the garrison. I tried to take care of them myself, but they are too tough for my meager team.

There's an angry carrot in the garden, an enormous rat eating our food rations, and an ornery water creature harassing the fishermen. If you can take care of them, I'll be free to finish up my work on your menagerie.
