Noticed this quest was added when I went to grab the Pack of Incendiary Bombs for a rep run. Accepting the quest provides the Pack of Incendiary Bombs so you do not have to talk to the quest giver twice.

At 85 completion of the quest rewarded me 1050 rep (+5% guild rep bonus), 1 gold 44 silver and 600 guild experience.

There is an issue with the quest. It's not necessarily bugged, however, you MUST be quick on the draw. On completion, you need to turn the quest in to Thrall before someone else talks to him and allows him to escape the cell.

Once Thrall has escaped the cell you will not be able to turn the quest in until the next time you're in the instance.

Edit: Why is this being rated down? This is definitely valuable information I wish I and my group had known before we got in there. One of our group had already been in here and completed his quest in a previous instance... he allowed Thrall to escape not realizing the rest of us who were new to the quest could never turn it in.

You have to burn down the 5 cottages by clicking on a Barrel inside them. These cottages can be found in the lower part of Durnholde where those Orc Prisoner are.

I was going here to actually just buy the recruit's cloth boots from the travelling salesman that walks the road from hillsbrad and tauren mill Thomas Yance. Yet I still had yet to complete this on heroic for the achieve so i decided to do the heroic run while here. I had done this several times while leveling alts, but the part after the bombings (where you do have info here) where you then go in Durnhold Keep to let thrall out from his cell, when I had done that leveling alts that were DPS or a healer (No tanks), the tank or a hasty DPS had already released Thrall as I was still clearing out the way. Thus to my problem, I had the quest and it said to release Thrall from his cell, but after several run throughs I could not find his cell ANYWHERE. I came here, no info. Looked on youtube, and I found where you have to go down in to the basement. The path down is very easily missed and does not stand out. It is easily ran by with out noticing. I am submitting a photo. If it is not added, the steps going down (as coming in the front) is found by taking a right coming in, then a left at the hall, then an immediate left into the middle pass, AND THE MOMENT you are in the passway it is immediately on your right and going down. I hope this helps someone.

people will get mad at you for turning this into Thrall because they think doing so will open the door and nobody else can turn it in. Ive been kicked many times on several toons because of this. so just turn in the quest don't talk to him, but good luck proving it

I really wish they would do something about this quest. Out of five people at least one will always start Thrall before you cash the quest.

Was confused at this quest line for a bit, couldn't find Thrall.

After you explode the 5 barrels in the small prisoner huts, Lieutenant Drake appears, kill him then a ? appears in the castle to go get Thrall. I thought at first he was in the small tower to the left because of the guards and bars on the doors, but shows him in the main castle. Went in and up but not there.

There is a small door at 74.6,58.4 on the main floor that leads to the basement/dungeon which is where he is.

Also a few times he stopped... thought the game was bugged and he was stuck, because he did nothing and said nothing. Turns out when he does that, you gotta click on him and there is some dialogue before he continues.

What I think Blizz should do is to add an "Are you ready" warning for the escort, and if at least one person clicks "No", then it won't start until everyone is ready. That way, everyone has a chance to turn in the quest.

What they should do is give everyone the auto-pop-up quest turn-in dialog box as soon as the quest objectives are completed. They have done it for so many other quests, they should be able to do it for this one.

In the Caverns of Time you can do the Durnholde instance. When you enter the instance, talk to the humanoid Erozion, he will give you these Incendiary Bombs. If for any reason you lose them, go back to him and get more.

Each one of the buildings in the pit at Durnholde has a darker-brown barrel. Place one Incendiary Bomb on each. You will need to kill the guards to do this.

The fires they cause will call Lieutenant Drake.

Then go into the basement of the hold. The basement entrance is under the stairs up.

Free Thrall, and as you leave the gate Captain Skarloc will appear.

You must speak, right click, Thrall to get him to move out of the basement, and again to get him to leave Durnholde for Tarren Mill. Taretha is upstairs in the Inn, which you will reach after Thrall searches the barn, and the church. You must kill the mobs to get Thrall to move on. Click on Thrall to get to the next segment after he finds Taretha.

ZOMG I ran past the door to the basement so many times and didn't see it!

As you go into the main castle on the hill, turn right, then left and left again. As you go towards the main room downstairs, there is a door on the right, next to a barrel and a weapon rack with two weapons in it.

If you miss it - it runs under the flight of stairs that goes upstairs.

Awwwww - just noticed its opposite a painting of olde Thousand Needles. I miss that place. Hated it at the time of course.

Run downstairs, havachat with old Thrall Baby, give him a slap for the whole Gorrash mess to come, then off you go.

For those seeking QUEST HAND IN => It can be done only before Thrall exits its prison. If he gets out, you need to either let him die to reset him or hand in the quest on your next visit to the dungeon. To be clear => You CAN NOT hand in the quest after you finish the dungeon.

Is there a way to reset the instance after screwing up this quest? I hearthed out and went back through the portal into the Caverns of Time and the Durnholde area did not reset.

Should be able to turn in the quest and accept the next one. There's non-quest dialogue to start the escort.

It has been a while since I've been in this dungeon. It seems this quest + "Hero of the Brood" have been removed... which is very sad with them gone, there is also 14k rep gain gone.

Edit: It's weird, those 2 quests do appear on a different char... anyone knows what's going on?

Taretha's Diversion

Travel to Durnholde Keep and set 5 incendiary charges at the barrels located inside each of the internment lodges using the Pack of Incendiary Bombs given to you by Erozion.

Speak to Thrall in the basement prison of Durnholde Keep when you have the Internment Lodges Set Ablaze.

Description

It was Taretha who created the original diversion at Durnholde, allowing Thrall to escape.

Now the Infinite have captured Taretha. The diversion will not happen without our involvement. You must use the incendiary devices that I give you and burn down the internment lodges.
