All you need to do is stand in front of one and let it run right next to you to get it done.
You don't even need to dis mount to get it done. :)

Can be a bit confusing if you don't know what you're looking for.
Look for a "ghostly white deer" in the area.

You can use your flying mount to get them.

Catching a spirit buffs you with 30 seconds of Presence of Malorne, useful if you want to kill mobs in that area anyway.
After completing the quest, you can find Malorne the next time you return to the Sanctuary of Malorne (for the rest of the day) and you can right-click him to receive Presence of Malorne with a 3 minute duration, still only one charge though.

On a busy server I did this quest by figuring out where they spawned and just camping there until 3 showed up. If you fly around they might not draw on your screen before someone else snags them.

Let me explain how to do this quest in plain English.

(1) You goal is to stand in front of the ghost deer that are near the Sanctuary. You cannot target the deer in any way. You can't grab them or click on them and you don't use the staff for it. The staff is for the follow-up quest.

(2) If you try to fly around and land in front of the deer you will go crazy. All the deer run fixed routes. The best strategy is simply to observe where a spawn point is and camp it. This way you can't miss them. The deer spawn about once a minute. If you can't figure out a spawn point just watch the route they run and stand somewhere on it and hope no one gets it before you.

(3) You can be mounted or in druid flight form. But you must be right in front of the deer. Close to it doesn't count.

They spawn at several points in that area. One spawn point I found was 33,59.

I just waited there and they spawned on me. I moved a tiny bit to go "through" them and it caught them.

Not sure why you are downrating spawn coordinates. :/

These spirits will show up on the minimap for hunters using Track Beasts.

Typically, you get this quest with a couple of others, and at least one of them will require that you kill some sort of mob. Perhaps to get scales. Perhaps to howl over a dead body. Or perhaps just as part of a body count.

I went to 34,64.2, which is at the top of a path and where a 1-2 Charred Flamewardens will be communing with some sort of flaming orb.

While fighting one of them, one of these ghostly deer runs through me.

The respawn rate for these Charred Flamewardens is about 20-30 seconds. Sometimes, the respawn of the second will overlap the respawn of the first, and you just kill, kill, kill, while, about every 40 seconds a deer will run through you.

In the course of killing 6 or 7 of these Charred Flamewardens, 3 of the deer ran through me. No chasing, and no running after things to kill. In less than a couple of minutes I had 2 quests done.

This quest was kind of a pain to chase down the deer just to watch it get nabbed by another person. I figured out a nice spot to stand at though. (33, 59) It is located between a mound and a tree. Hope this helps (: good luck

Oh boy, this quest is extremely annoying if you only got 150% flight speed. They run as fast as you can fly, so your best bet is to observe the ghosts are running (they don't seem to run around randomly) and just sit in their path and wait.

As many others mentioned, don't try and chase the deer around. It will just drive you crazy.

The key is to find a spot that they run through. One of those spots is around 33.5 59.5. It's between two little mounds and a tree.
Stand there and think like a linebacker. The key is to be in front of them as they run around. Another nice thing about this location is that there are Charred Flamewalker spawns around there, so if you stand there you can almost continuously get the buff from the deer that gives you 100% crit for your next attack and kill your Flamewalkers quick (for the quest where you need the Flamewalker scales).

Also, while there are many fun things to do in WoW while drunk, this is not one of them.

This quest doesn't seem to work when mounted on the Halloween brooms. Works fine on regular flying mounts.

If you idle at exactly 33.60, 64.18 you will very rarely get attacked and get all three in less than 3 minutes.

Just did this quest on a fresh 90 druid. Couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong and read some of the comments here. Saw comments mentioning mount issues, so I changed my druid out of flight form. Still didn't seem to want to work, even standing right where one of the spirits kept travelling and running right through me. Since I am also an herbalist, I decided to try something odd. I used Lifegiving Seed and wildly enough, I caught one! It also took my "disguise" off, so I tried it again. Sure enough worked! If you happen to be an herbalist and have problem getting this quest done, try it. Just make sure you have at least 3 Lifegiving Seed in your inventory.

Still possibly the buggiest quest in-game. As mentioned in many other comments make sure you are not mounted in any way. I also have a theory that the buff you get from a successful "capture" (Presence of Malorne) blocks you from another - so wait till that's gone before trying again. Even following all these restrictions I have still had stags run directly over me without the quest registering it. On a lot of these occasions the green flash you get from a capture shows and the stag disappears as if it was successful but no quest credit. I suppose there's no chance of Blizzard ever fixing this bug as its a random daily in a rarely used area nowadays but still very annoying if you have to grind these for any reason

Smart plan: dismount and stand in the patrol path of a deer spirit. Just sit there, and it'll run over you three times within 90 seconds. Great time for a bio break.

Reasoning: The spirits respawn pretty frequently, and there's some kind of anti-botting meaning that you can only be hit every 20-30 seconds, even if you remove the buff. The deer also follow fixed paths, so if you just missed it, go stand where it was. It'll be back soon.

DO NOT:
Run back and forth while flying attempting to intercept. It's probably not going to work and it will be bad for your blood pressure.

Your pet CAN steal a spirit so you need to move your pet away or dismiss it. I can still touch spirits while I am on a mount probably because I use a small mount (Cenarion War Hippogryph). Time to time even spirit is running through me, I don't get a credit. So I decide to touch spirit while I am moving on my small mount and it seems working for me.

You are able to receive the buff even when mounted. I was riding a drake and chased them around the place. Was less frustrating than standing in one place (dismounted), only to have the deers run straight through you and not getting credit.

I remember when you use to be able to just stand near them or even just fly near them and you would be able to get them. Now its worse, you have to be a few steps ahead of them and pretty much know where they are going to run to.

Even following all the advice from this thread, it seems quite bugged as of 6.2.3. Half the time you won't get credit, no matter what you do.

You still can get credit from this achievement like i did by running with them and press "Space" to make your mount go up and down and you will get the credit :) WOD 6.2

This quest sucks donkey balls. I stand in the way of them and nothing happens, i chase them and nothing happens, I sit here typing not even in the path and it finally happens. Bad programming imo.

I stood in various places and allowed many of these things to run through me over the course of 30 minutes or so. Only one counted. No idea what's going on with this but it's not very good!

Finally I found that flying out of the area altogether then flying back allowed me to gather the other two. So if they don't work for you, get the first one, leave the zone, come back, get the next one, leave the zone again, come back, get the third one. What a PITA. :-|

Description

Spirit fragments of Malorne - seen to us mortals as ghostly white deer - still frolic through these forests. While Malorne is no longer with us, these pieces of his spirit may be of use to us.

Travel east and walk among the trees. If you are able to get close enough to one of the spirit fragments, it will bestow its power to you.

Oh, and take this staff. You may need it later.
