works now. (take the top blue portal platform then open the coffin front of you, follow skeleton around)
at the end when the skeletons stands on the center portal platform, wait until he's done talking because if you walk in that portal platform too early you won't get credit

As of 20 November 2008 this quest is completed by talking to Overlord Drakuru. I followed Malmortis around twice, thinking I would get "credit" and then turn in. This is not the case. After the tour is over, take the green portal in the center of the room back to Drakuru.

Unbelievably buggy, slow, and terrible quest. Worst quest chain in Lich King I've encountered yet.

About that addons problems... i noticed everytime i clicked the coffin my Non-Combat pet spawned, so, i have this addon (Kennel) who spawn a random non-combat pet every so...

so, thats it... Disable Kennel for a while and it works :P (clicking 2 times completes the mision too :P)

This quest can be bugged.

I finished the pre-quest: Fuel for the Fire. Accepted the quest Disclosure and finished it. But in what reasen the part Learn Drakuru's secret in quest Sabotage did not finish.

When i checked my quest log. The quest Disclosure was not there. Fuel for the Fire was finished, and Drakuru did not give me any quests.

I turned of all my Addons. A GameMaster mailed me back to reset the user interface. If that not worked, i should delete the Cache, Interface and WTF folder.
When this still didn't worked i asked a GameMaster a second time. He then activated the part Learn Drakuru's secret in quest Sabotage. After this i could happely finish it...

Take the blue teleporter to go up.
The green teleporter sends you back down to the Reliquary of Pain.

Weirdly enough, while the captured chieftains say things like 'Nasty scourge!' when you talk to them on the bottom level, the ones here ask you what you're doing here as you're not one of the scourge, ignoring my ghoul disguise.

Hi! Can someone please help me. I found the coffin, but can't get the skeleton to spawn. I don't even see him. Its as if I don't even click anything. I tried clicking once and waited for something to happen. When nothing did I tried click loads of times and also double clicking- nothing happens.

because I tried to do it with youtube and ever teleporter takes you up to the Drakuru's Room (for more gay as that sounds) ...

Even after completing this quest, the secret of the blight crystal was still unknown... but hey!.. the information of war is going to start will be sufficient enough to continue a quest.. right?

(1) After accepting a quest go up a slope and stand on blue port locating directly above the green port.
(2) Click one time on the sparkling coffin right in front of you.
(3) Watch the event starts.
(4) Follow the skeleton.
(5) The skeleton will suddenly stop moving in front of the stair where leading down.

-- I think this is where bug comes in?

(6) Leave the skeleton and go down stair.
(7) Just go to the port and stand at the center of the floor.
(8) After transported back, go talk to the quest giver for completing a quest.

After note: Once finish this quest, you can not reuse the blue port to go up again... the room was a relatively well made and it should be worth explorer around more. I hope after this bug being fixed, there should be an option for "short" tour and "long" tour version... since I see many players prefer short visit (that may be why this bug was still not fixed till today?)

By the way, I already miss the skeleton guy.. he was a very well manner and courteous npc I have ever met in this game :) If possible I wants to know his side story for why he has become like that.

I also found the skeleton page : Malmortis.
To some players he hunts around and causing some troubles after this quest LOL.

As of Patch 6.0.2 this is bugged.

After clicking on the coffin you will start taking the tour.
When you arrive at the crystals Malmortis will say :

" I understand that you are to thank for the bulk of our supply."

After that he just stands there and the dialogue stops.

This quest is bugged. After the ghost shows you the Crystalized Blight he just stops moving and the quest is never completed. Riot pls!

Bugged. No two ways about it.

I submitted a bug report.
I also submitted a mayday request to the GMs.

The GM gave me a very nice response. He agreed there is some kind of issue preventing completion of the quest. He marked it complete and I was able to turn it in.

Note:
Somehow or other, when he forced Disclosure completion, the Sabotage quest was abandoned (remember Sabotage requires Disclosure be completed).
No problem. I re-accepted Sabatoge, completed the first two parts after which the Disclosure part was automatically checked-off. That is, it didn't matter that the two were completed out of order.

Quest seems to be fixed as of 12/05/2014 - completion was granted upon activating Malmortis' coffin, giving credit for this quest as well as Sabotage.

I think that this quest being fixed is a sign of the end times... Dance Studio coming up next?

The quest is still bugged even though someone mentioned in the comments here it was fixed. I created a ticket and within a few hours a GM contacted me and marked my quest as completed. He told me they are aware of this bug and hopefully he meant it sincerely when he said they are working to fix it. It's been like this for 3 months, let's hope it will be fixed soon, cause that's all we can. If you are having trouble with this quest I suggest skipping it unless you need loremaster, in which case just create a ticket, hopefully a GM will contact you, but be patient.

Tried this today 15/2/2015.

Appears to be working.

Skeleton moves ALOT quicker than he used to when it bugged out.
Potentially fixed.

I didn't do anything different to I had normally done a few months ago when I tried this.

I am no longer able to complete this quest, Malmortis is hit and then killed by an invisible Drakuru, the furthest I have gotten is the stairs down.

This quest is years old and still Blizzard manages to break it somehow.

So, I also had the issue where my pet was killing the skeleton, but I found a way around it.

First thing to note is that you have a pet of some kind that is killing the skeleton, this is important because it means that the 'pet' has an aggro table. I decided to try staying outside of aggro range, regardless of where my pet could be standing in relation to me. This worked after a few tries.

The NPC has a range that you must be in at certain points to stop him from despawning, all you have to do is find the sweet spot that is inside that range and outside of pet aggro range. I found 40-50 yards was about right. Play around with it, it's doable.

26th of July 2015 - Worked for me as of patch 6.2.0. Waited a whole year before coming back to try again. Did nothing special, really. Just clicked the coffin and followed Malmortis through the whole tour. Good luck.

Beware of walking on top of the teleport (green area in the middle of the round mini amphitheatre) at the end of the tour before Malmortis tells you farewell. Other than that the quest worked fine for me.

Still bugs out : Here's the go around though:

At level 100 :
Get naked before you click the coffin.Once the skeleton guy is summoned, jump off the edge so you are next to a blight down there, they will start taking the ticking damage that normally kills the skeleton dude.
Run up the stairs and catch up with the skeleton dude/ reclick the coffin
Then follow as quest intended. The blight down the bottom will continue taking the ticking damage, that was killing the skeleton.

I don't know why it works, but after an hour of trying different things. This did

As of 04.10.16 the bug is still happening, however I figured out a way around it. When skeleton man walks to the teleport device at the end of his guide, do not go into the teleport pad. Let him finish his brief talk and the quest will complete. Then proceed to the teleport pad and complete the quest.

I had an issue where I started the quest and Malmortis was killed by something. This happened 3 times in short order, so I cancelled my ghoul disguise, abandoned the quest, logged out and logged back in. Then I got the quest and I was able to compete it. Although, I noticed the invisible enemy was attacking geists in the area. Thankfully, he didn't attack Malmortis so I was able to complete the quest.

I think you have to be within the line of sight of Malmortis for certain lines of dialogue, or the quest will bug out at that point, including the final line "Farewell."

After an hour of trying to work this quest out. The best way I did it was standing a good distance away from him so he wasn't taking any of the ticking damage. Bit hard to judge the correct distance but once you work it out it's quite easy!

As of 7.1, this is bugged. There is an invisible mob that attacks the "friendly" undead, including Malmortis. He can only survive 2 hits from it. The only way I've found to complete this, is to trick the invisible mob into attacking something else. Make sure there is a ghoul near you when you click the coffin. The invisible mob will aggro the ghoul. Then stay back from Malmortis, and make sure you always keep at least one ghoul between you and him. It's hard to find the correct distance you have to stay to avoid killing him, while still completing the quest, but I've found you can still stay some distance back and still hear his speech and get credit. It took about a half hour, and 10 tries. Good luck.

I also got the bug where something would attack Malmortis every so often. I solved it by waiting until he was under attack again, dropping my disguise, and using AOE like mad until everything around me was dead. Then I went back and started Malmortis again and nothing attacked him.

The way I did this with the bug, was to summon Malmortis, /focus target him, and jump down to the lower level. From there I sort of followed his movements, but kept my distance. This way there was pretty much always some ghoul in between which the invisible thing would attack.

My wife and I were doing this quest the other day, and both encountered the invisible mob bug. After several tries, she managed to navigate the quest and complete it on her priest. I was having much more trouble with it on my warrior, as the NPC kept dying quickly. She came over to watch, and made mention that the NPC’s health was going down much faster with me than it did with her.

It struck me then that perhaps the damage being dealt was being caused in some way by our toons, so I unequipped my weapon and tried the quest again. There might have been one parry that I noticed, but otherwise the quest was completed with minimal trouble. I did keep some distance between Malmortis and my own toon, but I’d been doing that all along, and it was only after disarming my warrior that I was able to complete the quest.

According to my Mik's Scrolling Battle Text, the invisible thing killing Melmortis is none other than Overlord Drakuru, the rat bastard. He must sense treachery afoot.

Also, the easiest way to do this quest is to already be in combat before you activate Melmortis' coffin. It's more diffcult to stay alive when the ghouls start attacking, but the quest npc takes no damage the whole time, as you aren't in disguise.

Okay gang... I simply clicked on the coffin, backed up and targeted a ghoul in between me and Malmortis. I ran ahead a bit, but not as far as others mentioned, only far enough away to keep one ghoul between me and Malmortis at all times. I did notice, on the ground floor, that once I had kept another ghoul targeted, the targeted one consistently took invisible damage from some hiddeon mob, but I still kept the targeted ghoul between me an M. Got it on the second try based on this! So it isn't so tricky if you just do that! But FYI, still glitched as of April Fool's Day (1 April) 2018.

So, yeah ... this quest is still bugged on 7.3.5. Crazy. Ridiculous.

It should be moved to Blizzard’s Island of Misfit Quests.

Anyway, the log out and then log back in trick seemed to work for me ... this time. Doesn’t always work though. Sometimes, dropping scourge disguise, and then putting it back on works. Then, other times, doing a dance under an oak tree under a full moon during the 3rd night of the summer solstice does it. If there’s no full moon on that night, well then ... you’re screwed.

Well ! Finally did it !

I take a long time to do this quest, and multiple tests to found what's resolved this bug.

So, the only solution is to kill some Blight Geist ! In fact, it's these b***** whoses doing damages on Malmortis.

So that's simple : kill 3 of them (not those who jump in the middle) and it will be OK :D

For the Malmortis dying bug. Simply target the Blightblood Troll in the blue circle quest area. Keep it targeted while you walk. The problem is YOU doing damage to him, it's the Blight Geists. They will attack the Troll if you target it instead of Malmortis.

You don't have to stand back, you don't have to remove your armor, you don't have to jump down, you don't have to aggro and geist and keep him on you. Just target the the troll.

This is still bugged as of 12/1/2018. None of the previously posted solutiosn worked for me however.

What did work for me was the following. Go to the lower level of the room where the Blightblood Trolls are standing. Wait until the "invisible" mob starts attacking it. Then go upstairs and click the coffin. The invisible mob will stay on the Blightblood Troll and ignore the skeleton. Those Blightblood Trolls are elites, so it won't die anytime soon from the damage. With the "invisible" mob being occupied you can follow the skeleton like normal. Only thing I did not do was using the stairs, just for the case that would mean I would be out of range of the Troll. You can just jump down at that point.

Still bugged as of 6/12/19, none of the posted fixes here worked for me, no matter what, no matter how long I waited, the invisible mob would still attack Malmortis.

What I ended up doing was removing my disguise and just killing all the geists first before I clicked on the coffin. That seemed to work well enough. I even accidentally left one alive, but Malmortis didn't die. Just kill all the geists before you start and you'll be fine. Good luck!

I will never do Zul'Drak questing ever again on any of my future alts.... this was by far the most annoying bug I have came across questing. Getting the Invisible mob to attack the Elite Blightblood Troll is what let me complete it...

Still bugged as of 2020/04/03.

I tried the solutions that others typed here but none worked for me.

However I did manage to do it this way as a 64 shaman.
1. Jump down next to a Blightblood Troll.
2. Use the disguise. The invisible mob will now target the Troll.
3. Run up to the coffin and follow Malmortis.
4. The quest should now be doable.

i tried doing this quest many times. a lot of people said you had to be far away, however, if you're quest is like mine and that still didn't work try what i did. i was not only as far away as possible, but i was also not even facing malmortis at all. i walked backwards if i had to walk and would only do so when he was walking. if he stopped to talk, i stopped walking.

Remove disguise while spam-clicking the coffin to summon multiple Malmortis, it worked for me, and the Npc seemed to stop getting killed.

The quest wasn't bugged for me. I'm assuming it has been fixed now. I was in my disguise. I teleported to the top floor by standing on the blue teleport. I right clicked on the coffin, the skeleton dude came out, showed me around, he escorted me back to the teleport and I turned in the quest.

In 9.0, this is still bugged. I was level 43 and questing in Chromie Time. I had the disguise on and I had to stand by the Blightblod Troll with the greyed out nameplate until the invisible mob starting attacking it. Then, I was able to complete the quest.

This may be a druid related bug to solve a bug but in cat form I was able to spam click the coffin and spawn about 20 skeletons which it took about only 5 of them tanking hits and dying above by the invisible mob for the rest of them to make it out alive and wrapping up the tour quest!

This quest is still bugged as of April 2021. I did what previous comments said and targeted one of the Blighted Trolls on the lower level, waited until the invisible mob was attacking it, went upstairs and summoned Malmortis, and kept the troll targeted the whole time. No issues after that!

Just did it as a 20 Rogue. Bug with mobs killing the skeleton appears to be fixed, you'll need to summon Malmortis and just follow him until he reaches the green teleport platform.

Do not use the platform, you'll leave the area and he'll despawn and you'll have to start over. The trigger to complete the quest is having him complete the tour of the area.

At this point - patch 9.2.5 - its working.

From Drakuru, go down the ramp. Take the upper teleport to the next level. There is a coffin there. You need to drop the disguise, right click on the coffin like 20x, then add the disguise back. You then just follow the dude around on a tour. Eventually you end up in the down teleporter in the upper level. (and the quest is complete) Take it and go back to the quest giver.

Incredible that like 14 years later and this is still the very worst quest chain in the entire game. Not a single quest is enjoyable to do, and the mechanics are so buggy it's insane that it's just been left like this to rot.
