The Steel Gate Artifacts can be found all around the area at loc (31, 26). They appear on the wooden landings and ramps of the digging site.

Respawn rate is approximately 5 minutes per artifact.

Awful respawn rate, with a lot of players fighting over them this quest will take you some time to complete, at least in early Wrath.

They indeed respawn on a 5 minute timer. They're scattered in a few places in the pit however I camped a spot at 30, 25 that is an overhanging ledge made of wood (just to the west and a bit south of the quest giver). Nobody ever knew it spawned up there so I was able to camp it with minimal effort, meaning I didn't have to click as soon as it spawned, I had some buffer time.

Anyway, I'm sure it will get easier as people move through the Howling Fjord.

Depending what time of the day you do this quest, there there could be many people around so as the above poster mentioned ( while painfully slow) camping an artifact will assure you of a guaranteed 10.

they spawn all over steel gate, they spawn very rarely also.
best time to do that quest is when most of the people are sleeping :)

<Explorers' League> mobs in that area granted much less XP, than other mobs in Howling Hjord.

WORST QUEST IN THE ENTIRE ZONE
make sure you bring a friend to help you or bring some healing items
if you sap one of them and then take the tablets you will AGRO about 5 of them all at oncea nd you cannot escape them by jumping into the water.
Huge waste of patience & time to do this quest and the reward is not even remotely worth going into that smelly pit of dwarves.

This quest is very easy slightly left from where sage mistwalker is standing of the little camp or tent you will see a little path leading down into a canyon looking area the dwarves there are easy the artifacts they are laying around everywhere it took me about 5 minutes to gather up 10.

Sage Mistwalker has asked you to collect 10 Steel Gate Artifacts. When you have all of them, return to him at Steel Gate.

Description

I came out here for a different reason; an old friend of mine has been calling to me in my dreams. But now that I see these small things with their machines making a big hole in the ground, it makes my blood boil.

From what I can see, these dwarves, as they are known, are digging up artifacts; artifacts that could be important to our past.

I want you to go down there and get these things for me. Don't let any of those dwarves stand in your way.
