48,73 area, drop rate is 100% :) .. Drum either spawns a gnome or the Sifter u need. Sifter's do around 900-1000 poison dmg.

Had about 25% that a sifter came and yes they hit pretty hard. For me np (64 frost mage) just use your pet :)

Look for tiny bones on the ground. That's the area you'll work in. Kill trash in between pulls.

Easily compelted:

Go to the edge of Refugee Caravan and The Bone Wastes (any side). Keep NPCs to your back and use the fumper. If gnome spawns, run back towards NPCs, they will kill him.

When Sifter spawns fight him until he goes underground. He will always reappear behind you, which should be closer to NPCs. Keep your back to NPCs at all times and he'll quickly be in the Caravan camp where NPCs will finish him off.

Use the Fumper right by the outpost where you get the quest. The sand worms will usually bury themselves and pop up in the town and the guards help you kill them. Really easy to solo.

Nooblets any one can solo him the trick is to make him spawn on the bone pile if you do that then he can not get behind you the spell he uses to get behind you is a blink spell but the ground is diffrent on the pile so you can stand there and just bet him down he will only fire his big 900-1000 poison dmg when he pops backup but becouse he cant go down to move behind you it only happens the first time he pops up .....

note to casters you must be standing next to him or he may evade bug.

When you do this ques, do it outside of the Sha 'Tari base camp. Simply because the guards will help you out. Plus you won't have to worry about adds when fighting the worms.

Out of about ten first uses of the Fumper got 7 worms, but after that must've gotten over half a dozen gnomes only... annoying!

says group but really is quite soloable. did this as a ret pally lvl 64 with really no trouble. Also if u dont feel like killing the sand gnomes since they grant no xp nor can you loot them. Do this quest near the bone wastes entrance to the allerian stronghold. when a gnome spawns run to the guards. saves time and prolly food andor mana drinks.

Easily soloed as a 64 shadow priest. Just shield before you summon, and it really isn't much of a challenge. Using the guards for help can work, but they are often slow to act, and don't hit very hard.

Done this, as a 63 subt rogue, on the stairs of the small sepulcher 47,72. Quite easy fights and the graveyard is just in front of it :) so no problem for death cuase it just resets your cooldowns :D

Use the drum anywhere in The Bone Waste, when you see the minimap written The bone Waste, there you can use it, a big worm will spawn or a sand gnome, the worm drops the quest item every time you kill him wich means 100%m but the gnome doesn't.........btw, you can use the drum up to infinite times in the same place (must be in The Bone Waste), you can use it , finish the quest, get the reward in almost the same place.

The best area to do this would be 50,76 because an NPC, Vindicator Haylen will help you. He doesn't do a whole lot of DPS but he has a net which helps sometimes and you can just leave undesirable mobs that spawn (Sand Gnomes) to him.

im doing this quest right now and im using the refugee camp method , although im finding it kinda hard to do enough damage to the worm , when it hits me for 1k and not my shield off and 3 hits because i am a squishy mage...

Hallo all who want help with this quest..
i got a nice trick u can do.. and it will go 2x faster!!!
the trick is simple..
go to Tloc 49,76..
at the NPC named:vendicator haylen
and then use ur Fumper (the quest item) there.. and there will spawn a gnome or a mature bone shifter.. the mature bone shifter got 100% drop chance on the quest item.. and the trick is that.. the NPC lvl. 62 elite will HELP U TO KILL THE MOB?..
The gnome wont give u any quest item.. just so u know it!

I used the drum at 32,75 pretty close to Sha'tari Outpost where I received the quest. I used it right next to a 70 elite Sha'tar Vindicator. It made this quest very soloable as the Vindicator did most of the damage to the Mature Bone Sifters.

I found that if i stood near the refugee caravan and walked into the bone waste's and banged the drums and summoned the worm/gnome, that if i got the first couple of hits and then walked back to the caravan the guards at the caravan would help me.

Makes it alot more faster to kill.

Possible reference:
Fumping sounds suspiciously like thumping, a method used to distract/lure sandworms to a given location (the area where you used the thumper) in the Dune universe.

I'd just like to note that the worms are invincible for about 3-4 seconds after they appear, as they're coming out of the ground. They CANNOT take damage until this animation finishes completely, which seems to be some time during the second cast of poison.

This screwed me because I'd unload as soon as I could target, then let the guards finish them off... It took me about 4 worms before I figured out what was going on. :(

Just soloed as a level 64 rogue.
What I did was stand inbetween the two Sha'tar Vindicators at the "Entrance" to the camp.
Walk out until you move into the Bone Waste, and then fump and hit the spawn instantly. The two gaurds will then hit it and kill it quickly.

Incredibly hard quest quest! Whatever you do, don't stand next to the Sha'Tari Base Camp and use the drum. It will cause the mob to appear close enough to aggro the guards. Then, the guards will kill the mob!

What ever you do fight then in melee range because if you aren't in range it will spit poison at you and the poison hurts a lot more than the standard attack.

I recommend that you do this quest next to the sha'tari camp, so the guards will help you kill the fake mobs, it will make it a bit faster.

I did this quest as a Shadow Priest. The method i find that worked for me, other ranged classes as well i'd assume, was to stand at coordinates 32,76 with your back facing the Sha'tari Camp. When you use the drum, if a Sand Gnome appears, simply run back to the camp and let the guards take care of it, no point in wasting mana, if you use mana. When a worm appears, start DPS and when the worm turns around, if your channeling a "laser" spell, like Mind Flay, it will auto-turn for you, turn around and continue to DPS the worm. From this spot, the guards should aggro the worm and help you to kill it. Do not stop DPSing the worm until it is dead so that you can loot the corpse. This method worked amazingly for me and is really just spin-off of the method mentioned earlier, just with coords as to where a good spot to stand is=)

Sometimes a "Sand Gnome" will appear instead of a worm. It seems to be a 50/50 chance of getting one or the other.

this is an incredibly easy quest that a level 50 could do. all that you need to do is stand next to the 70 elite guards when you summon the worm soloed it as a 63 hunter

When you use the fumper u get a buff named fumper. I figured out that it simply do that you cannot auto attack. u can still use apps and spells but you wont hit it. Simply remove this buff. helped me a lot

soloed this quest on my lvl 63 DK,8126hp i had,i finshed the sifters easily without going below 7000,mostly cuz my minion was dps'n it lol...btw u shouldnt stand to close to the camp,if u do u will keep gettin sand gnomes over and over again,i would try about 15 steps back

Ok this is obviously a nod to Frank Herbert's Dune. Using a FUMPER (Thumper) to call a worm, then in the next part learning that these were baby worms and you need to call an adult worm. Even the final rewards: DIB'MUAD'S (Muad'Dib's) Crysknife, REVERED (Reverend) Mother's Crysknife, SHANI'S (Chani's) Crysknife.

What I don't quiet understand is the Sand Gnomes. Are they supposed to represent the Fremen or what?

Did this as a 66 fire mage. Really easy, step just outside the camp there til you see the screen saying "bonewastes" then hit the drum, the guards come to help you kill, not that they're that hard to begin with, but mages seem to always need a helping hand.

This quest is easy to solo, all you have to do is go to the location 38,50 and put your back to the guards at the camp, walk out till you can bang your drum and the just get one good hit on the worm.

The worms like to pop up behind you while your fighting them, happens almost every time imo, when it pops up behind you it's in range of the aggro range for the guards and they finish it off.

If it wont let you bang the drum and says Need to be in bone wastes then just move forward a little but try to stay close so that the worm pops near the guards.

The following mobs can be summoned by using the Fumper:
Sand Gnome which don't drop anything.
Mature Bone Sifter which drop Mature Bone Sifter Carcass for your quest. (You need 8)

1. Fumping
• Accept the quest, Fumping, from Dwarfowitz at coords 31.0, 76.2 (Sha'tari Base Camp).
• Travel east of the base camp, into the Bone Wastes, to coords 33.0, 76.6
• Use Fumper, and kill Mature Bone Sifter, looting 8 Mature Bone Sifter Carcass from their corpses.
• Travel west, back to the Sha'tari Base Camp, at coords 31.0, 76.2.
• Turn in the quest to Dwarfowitz.

Description

How would you like to do a little more work for the Explorers' League? These bone worms have us all quite intrigued.

I've got a drum right here that you can use out in the Bone Wastes. Just bang on the damned thing and see what you get. If it's a worm, kill it and bring back the carcass for us to study. We'll need a good lot of carcasses to get a valid testing sample.
