They may have changed the drop rate, i killed about 14 Ghosts, oddly enough no spectres ever spawned, and i got all 10 remnants

From what i have noticed the Tormented Souls become ghosts and the Tormented Citizen's became spectres.

ok that wasnt correct as i just pulled a citizen and it became a ghost but i have still only ever seen spectres from citizens

I just did this quest and here was my drop rates (drops per kills).

Kirin'Var Ghost - 8/18 - 44%
Kirin'Var Spectre - 2/5 - 40%

Total of 23 kills.

Wow the drop rate sux. Kill 52 Ghosts and 14 Spectres... only 8 drops.

The "official" drop rate is
5488 out of 18994 (28.9%).

However, I found mine to be above 50%, and completed the quest easily. Attack the citizens in their houses, and be sure to not attack when the are using soulbind, or you'll be damaging yourself.

Just finished this quest. got
7/16 Ghosts
3/6 Spectres

Also as stated above, avoid damaging during the Soulbind, 50% of the damage you deal is inflicted upon yourself. So it's a good idea to stun it if you can and wait.

Also for Rogues. CLoS doesn't remove the Soulbind.

As I was doing this I saw that if you aggro the mob and get it to change BEFORE you attack it gets a much better (possibly up to 100%) drop rate.

The drop rate was actually 100% for me. I got a remnant from every kill off of the Ghosts and the Spectres.

Done by 70 Rogue easy. And even though Helu's plan seemed to work for people, I attacked them dead on, and each one dropped a remnant.

I accepted this quest, got 1/10 after 40 kills, logged out and logged back in and got a 75% drop rate. If your having problems, I'd suggest doing the same.

You MUST let them put soulbind on you to get the drop. I kept using counter spell so they couldn't cast it on me. Now I let them cast it on my every time, then I got the 100% drop rate.

This is pretty easy for pala's, just cleanse the soulbind spell and kill.

Don't worry about the soulbind as an affliction lock. you can drain life, and you'll heal more than the damage you deal to yourself.

Soloed as 68 Rogue. had to Vanish once and blind once on a bad pull and agro control. Other than that, pretty easy. Drop rate is about 60%.
Cloak of Shadows doesn't cure Soulbind.

I found that during the fights when the ghosts start to cast the soulbind (50% damage taken is shared with you) if you move away from them they cannot catch you before the buff wears off.

Warlocks - make sure to use your Felhunter on this quest. You can either have him Spell Lock the cast of the Soulbinds, or if you miss it he can devour it off of you. Devouring the debuff off you also causes it to be removed from the mob, so they're back to taking full damage - but you should only have to do that if somehow you miss an interrupt.

Believe me, it makes killing these mobs go a lot faster and a whole lot less annoying!

Most classes should take their time with this quest, if no one else is clearing this area at the same time as you, there are quite a few adds to watch for on patrol, I was often times fighting 3 or 4 with my 70 hunter, and i had some close calls

The way I got most drops (before that only 1 or 2 dropped) was:

1) Aggro them without hitting them
2) Nuke nuke etc.
3) When they cast soulbind, STOP HITTING. This was something that amazed me, when I didn't hit them with soulbind they almost had 100% drop rate on the bloody q item, while before I just shielded and went on hitting them...

Of course, plenty of chances this was totally coincidential :P

If u run out of ghost, head down to the eastern part at the graveyard. They seem to go here and mourn at the graves..

If you kill the tormented mobs before they have a chance to transform, they will instead be knocked down to 1% and just stand there before transforming anyway, still at 1%. If you keep hitting it while it's at 1%, you can kill it again. If this happens, it will transform into a specter/ghost with full health and you will have to fight it again. Also, there is no corpse for the citizen, so only 1 loot for 2 kills.

From what I've seen with this quest, if you let the tormented souls bind to you, you get a remnant every time. I can't be sure if that's true, but every time I let one cast it, and let the duration go, then killed it, I got one.

Up to each user to test this for themselves.

I was using my Lvl 73 DK-Unholy, killed these citizens and souls as many ways to Sunday. All I can say is when my next toon does this quest I will review Wowhead first before accepting it! I killed them after the spell binding, which for 50 %of the time dropped the quest material BUT, only the quest material! Other 50% was NOTHING. Not a real gold grabbing quest.

Just RNG, I killed various ghosts pre- and post-soulbinding cast and it's completely random, the ones I let cast Soulbind did not drop the quest item every time. I tried one-shotting the Tormented Souls/Citizens before they could transform and it seemed like they dropped the quest item every time but then after deleting my 10 stack of Loathsome Remnants and testing, I must've just been lucky because upon trying again, some didn't drop the q items.

This quest, in fact ALL of the quests in Netherstorm aren't worth the time you put into them. The experience is low, drops are poor, not much to farm. The 68 level mobs are more like 73. I went through all of outworld without dying; but died 7 times throughout this zone.

A warning: if you kill these guys before they transform, you won't be able to loot the corpse. You have to let them transform before they die.

You can only get the Loathsome Remnant after the mob has become its generic ghost form, not humanoid. If you are a high level, its best to use a non damaging move first like taunt/curse of elements then wait till transform for the kill.

1. A Lingering Suspicion
• Accept the quest, A Lingering Suspicion, from the Necromantic Focus at coords 60.3, 78.0 (Inside Barn at Kirin'Var Village Chapel Yard).
• Exit the Barn and kill Tormented Soul and Tormented Citizen, looting 10 Loathsome Remnant from their corpses.
• Travel southwest to coords 57.4, 86.2.
• Turn in the quest to Custodian Dieworth.

I have killed over 30 spawns without one drop, I waited until they turned to ghosts or spectres, I tried killing them with the soulbind and without. I have relogged and abandoned and retaken the quest a few times. I saw on Battlenet that someone else was having this problem as of 1 day ago and am curious if anyone else is having issues? I'm about to submit a report to Blizzard, but that takes a few days for a response nowadays. Hoping I missed something to resolve faster.

This Quest is bugged as of 7.0.3 and wont drop the Loathsome Remnant. I found out that this have to do with the Distance the Player has to the Enemy. If you kill the Tormented Soul 20 meter/feet away they will drop the Quest item. I oneshotted them and could finish the quest.

I have killed a fair number of ghosts, but it’s not letting me loot anything from them. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there some sort of problem with this quest? I have tried abandoning and re-acquiring this quest many times, still nothing…HELP!

Doing this quest today, I am noticing that if I let the citizens transform I can't loot the orbs, so I have found that killing them while they are still people drops the items

Whatever the previous problem was with completing this quest has been cleared up. First citizen I fought almost immediately transform, but I was still able to loot and get the quest item.

Edit to add that it took 20 kills for the ten remnants.

A Lingering Suspicion

Collect 10 Loathsome Remnants from the twisted spirits in Kirin'Var Village's Chapel Yard and bring them to Custodian Dieworth.

	Loathsome Remnant (10)

Description

The strange magical device resembles nothing you've ever seen before. It's certainly not of blood elf manufacture.

As you sense spirits moving closer to the building, the orb glows with a greater intensity, which fades as the spirits leave. There's no question that it plays a role in the corruption of the ghosts.

How it works remains a mystery. Perhaps Custodian Dieworth will have some insight if you can provide the remains of some of the spirits along with your observations.
