I just tamed Shadra as a level 50 MM Hunter. After trying unsuccessfully several times (the summoned NPCs would pull aggro during my tame), I found the altar at 34, 73 that starts the exact same quest that summons her. By starting the quest from the altar, I was able to get Shadra's attention and start the tame before the summoned NPCs could get to her. Success!

I had trouble taming it because i couldnt keep aggro then i used scare beast and tamed it

Along with being the Spider Primal God, her naming convention is seen in two other spiders (at the time of this comment): Shadril and Shanda the Spinner.

As Shadra is the "Mother of spiders", it is nice to see a couple other spiders having names derived from her own. Always fun to see Blizzard toss us things like this, if only for lore nerds like me to smile as we pass by them.

The only thing that worked for me was what blader1999 said...

1.) Accept quest and hustle to the waters edge
2.) no matter what, she engages the Forsaken adds
3.) cast scare beast
4.) while she's "scared" start to tame

5.) Enjoy your new pet.

The first quest of this quest chain is The Eye of Shadra for Horde, or the mirror quest of the same name for Alliance.

Took me a few attempts to get her on my hunter, cause of the damn adds. I tried everything but the scare beast (cause I forgot I even had that spell. Derp!)

Ended up taking the quest from the alter, took two tries, cause even across the pond, the adds pulled her. I had to tap her with a couple shots (luckily I was low enough in lvl I didn't killed her).

ok. In order to unlock the first quest in the chain, you have to do all the other hinterlands ones first.(I did them but of course they got reset after Cata so pretty easy and quick at 85). When summoned she automatically attacks the mob and any attempt at taming will be broken. The best way to prevent this is to drop a freeze trap in the lake, pick up quest, hustle over to Shadra and start taming before the mob joins you in the water. By the time they arrived, I only had a second or two left on my taming.

I don't think she is tamable any longer, due to changes to her and to hunters.

She seems to 100% evade my frost traps, so I can't freeze her before she engages in combat and we no longer have scare beast or anything that can take aggro off of the Darkcleric or dwarf she auto-targets and attacks.

Anyone have any different experiences?

EDIT: If you break the event, you can tame her. If one faction has the quest up, and a member of the other faction starts the quest but Shadra dies before they can hit her it causes a brawl between all of the undead and dwarves that seems to go on a long time and screws up the auto-targeting.

As a troll I ended up with the deathguard fighting the dwarf Gryphon master, but the Shadra I spawned wanted to target the Darkcleric, who did not seem to be spawned. Instead she allowed me to tame her.

I don't know if this is repeatable, an exploit or what, but it's what happened and I ended it with a tamed Shadra.

Tamed Shadra last night as a lvl 40 BM hunter! Since Legion dropped you'll need two people to tame her. The spawned friendly adds cannot be killed by enemy players, so I had a high level Alliance friend fly over and set traps for them, while I had a freezing trap in the water where Shadra spawns. Start the encounter from the alter, not the scout NPC. As soon as you've started the encounter, jump into the lake while Shadra spawns into your freezing trap and start tame immediately. If everything goes well, the NPC adds will be too far away to attack Shadra, giving you just enough time to finish your tame!

I can't tame her at all. NPC's are too strong with the aggro gods. I've tried everything down in the comments and nothing works to tame her.

I just tamed her the other day by myself (lvl 38 marksman hunter). Definitely use the altar like previous comments have said! What I had to do was summon her and have the NPCs attack her and then enemy NPCs would show up to defend her - them fighting each other seems to be key - abandon the quest and then kill her really quick. Then go to the far side of the altar hill away from the fight - as far down the hill as you can. Then I dropped my freezing trap and tar trap (used both mostly just for good measure) - they need to be near the middle to catch her but try to keep them towards you. Then as soon as you start the quest start to tame her the second she spawns while the NPCs are still busy with each other. Took me maybe six tries but it is worth it, she looks so awesome crawling around beside me. Best of luck

Was able to tame Shadra on patch 7.2.5, without Scare Beast. While convoluted, it worked on my first attempt (with this tactic). My tactic involved taunting her with my pet, and dragging her as far away from the NPCs as possible. You may have to re-apply the taunt, and it's key to make sure you keep calling your pet to you (having Follow bound helps) so she keeps following you and doesn't die. I dragged her around the eastern altar, then jumped over the ledge onto the stairs. I then used Disengage to quickly descend the staircase, and popped Aspect of the Cheetah. I then ran toward the lake, and dropped a freezing trap at the center. Once she reached the water's edge, the NPCs completely disengaged from combat. She hit the trap, I dismissed my pet, and I was able to tame her. I don't know exactly what caused the NPCs to leave, but I assume it was either due to water's edge (although I tried using the water to have them drop combat earlier, and failed) or they simply ran around too long and bugged out or reset. Good luck, hopefully this works for others.

Just tamed this, all u need to do is mounted and take the quest. fly to the centre quickly and dismount in the air make it faster dive into the lake. May take several attempt to get that.

I tamed her on my 110 BM hunter with the following steps:

-before starting quest set a trap at the bottom of the pond in the middle (you have to be in the water otherwise the trap sets on the surface)
-fly to alter
-click the alter and re-mount
-accept quest
-quickly fly to trapped Shadra and as soon as you are in range begin taming.

Enjoy you new spider pet. Hopefully this helps all the high level hunters that were struggling with gaining aggro without one shotting the mob.

2019 update.. She is tameable without scare beasts. go in with your pets summed. get aggro on your pet, use freeze trap on her then dismiss your pet. Once she's frozen she won't get aggro'd by any of the adds and can be tamed without issue. Just did it with my lvl 38 BM Hunter

As high level hunter, this worked for me:
1. Accept the quest from the altar above the lake (not from the npc).
2. Interaction with altar will dismount you, so before you accept, jump on you fly mount.
3. Drop into the lake and cast scare beast.
4. Tame :)
