We're ringing in the new year with two holidays: New Year's Eve Fireworks and the Darkmoon Faire.
Check out the fireworks on the top of every hour in Booty Bay the evening of December 31st through the morning of January 1st.
The Darkmoon Faire starts on January 1st. This is a great time to grind reputation with various buffs, complete quests for profession skill boosts, and collect numerous mounts, pets, toys and transmog options.
We hope you have a happy new year; check out
Wowhead's 2016 Year in Review
to see what we've been proud of in the past year.
New Year's in Azeroth
It's time once again for Azeroth to celebrate New Year's Eve with a nice
Filled Festive Mug
and fireworks--catch them at the top of the hour in major cities and Booty Bay starting at 6pm PST on December 31st, but
try
not to drunkenly PvP in Booty Bay since the guards are asleep.
Don't forget to /dance back at the Revelers to get
Celebrate Good Times!
, which increases all stats by 10% for 30 minutes. Drinking
Filled Festive Mug
also gives you a neat slowfall effect--
Lightheaded
.
Whether you're relaxing in-game or heading out to celebrate, have a Happy New Year!
Darkmoon Faire
The Darkmoon Faire starts Sunday January 1st and is here for the week. From transmog to professions, we have you covered in the
Comprehensive Darkmoon Faire Guide
.
There are Legion recipes, toys, mounts, pets, and transmog options you can only get at the Darkmoon Faire. In addition to mounts, pets, toys, and transmog, the Darkmoon Faire offers valuable reputation buffs:
Darkmoon Top Hat
and
WHEE!
. These do not stack; each increases experience and reputation by 10% for an hour.
Make sure you have a reputation buff on when completing Legion World Quests, and Emissary Quests, clicking on Withered Army Training reputation tablets. You'll need six reputations at Revered (
Broken Isles Diplomat
) for
Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part One
and Nightfallen Exalted for
Class Hall Armor Set
shoulders. We also have a new guide to
Making the Most of Holiday Reputation Buffs
if you are looking for additional factions worth gaining reputation with.
The Darkmoon Faire is also a great way to boost your professions. There are quests which grant +5 skillups (great if you're struggling to hit 800), Legion Inscription recipes for higher ranks of crafting Darkmoon Faire cards, and
Darkmoon Daggermaw
which provide fishing skillups and can be turned in for recipes and pets.
If you are set on professions, you can fish up 500
Darkmoon Daggermaw
now for the
Darkwater Skate
mount, sold by

800 Fishing with default fishing pole = 100% Daggermaws... still gonna be a few hours to fish 500, but I've got ~180 fish an hour when using timed fishing buffs (bait/lures) - call it 3-3½ hours, to allow for crates, etc.
Bloated Thresher
will help the yield a lot, too
This would work better on low pop servers, but I was able to get all 500 Daggermaw in about 3 hours, give or take, by fishing the
Shipwreck Debris
. Each pool usually yields between 5-10 fish, sometimes more. At the time, I was about 780 fishing w/ enchanted
Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
and
Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
. So if your fishing isn't already maxed (and
800 fishing doesn't yield 100% Daggermaws
, btw) using a water strider mount or some variety of water walking and fishing the pools is a great alternative.
Realm = Terokkar-EU... that said I've never seen any queues to get a swim @ Darkmoon Faire - do players seriously get overcrowded piers...?
Darkmoon Faire fishing has never resulted in anything but Threshers or Daggermaws (since they became the default fish) from castable water - OK, the occasional crate, but the Threshers make up for it. Daggermaw can be fished anywhere around the island - doesn't have to be pools.

Anyone know about how long it takes to get the mount if you are fishing 24/7? Is it more than 24 hours of straight fishing?
I started it at level 1 with the standard fishing pole, took about 2.5 - 3 hours total.
