Got the X-53 Touring Rocket, it looks pretty awesome imo but the passenger you bring with you may have certain lag spikes that he as keeps hanging at an spot and then gets ported abit further to where you are with the rocket but still great mount, i sure enjoy throwing off person so they die XD

basicly got it since i still ha the zhevra but never gave it to a character so it was still standing on my acc, the zhevra got changed to this rocket and so i got it ;)

Really interesting thing is that if you enter water from the ground, at an incline / angle, you will not be dismounted! Normal flying mounts auto dismmount when this happens, so this means you can ride it around under water. Makes for a really cool sub : p

This mount is exclusively obtained from the Recruit-A-Friend program.

~~It is a flying mount, and while the description doesn't say so, it does not have a ground-mount version; therefore, it can only be used in Northrend or Outland.~~

As of patch 4.0.1, the rocket has a ground-mount mode and so can be used anywhere. Without Cold Weather Flying or Flight Master's License, the rocket will revert to it's ground-only mode in the respective zones.

Passengers can be of any level, even below the level of having any riding skill (I tested with a level 4 passenger).

Normally I do not care whether Blizzard sells vanity pets or other mounts from TCG but this mount is the ONLY flying mount with passengers... when you give a item uniquely only people who have used this option or bought a second account its kinda unfair to the players who cannot afford something like 3 months of RAF. A extreme or exaggerated example would be giving flying mounts only to people that spend 50$ not obtainable in game only by spending money can you fly anywhere in the game. I do not care much about this mount but i just hope this will not come to the point where spending money gets you exclusive stuff (not for looks) only obtainable for people who can spend the money.

Pure and absolute speculation here, so don't take it as guaranteed or anything, but...

This mount can be used underwater. This mount does not say "May only be summoned in Outland or Northrend". We know there is going to an underwater zone in Cataclysm, and we know we're going to be allowed to fly in Azeroth in Cataclysm.
Am I the only one who sees some sort of link here?

If you really, REALLY want this mount, you can invite yourself -- using a different email address -- via the Recruit-a-Friend program. (You're still better off if you invite an actual friend)

The real secret, if you want this mount quickly, is to go down to your local Wal-Mart, Best Buy or other stores, and purchase a 60-day World of Warcraft prepaid gaming card. Then, you will receive the mount immediately. Otherwise, you have to wait 30-40 days for the first payment to process on the new account.

All told? $10 to start a new WoW account, and $29.95 for the 60 day game card. $40 is much, much cheaper (one-tenth the price!) of an X-51 Nether Rocket XTREME. And, it will scale to 310% if you have another mount which flies that fast. (The Violet Proto-Drake qualifies)

One would think that the Mechano-Hog and other passenger-capable ground mounts will be somewhat less valued, come Cataclysm, now that we will be able to fly everywhere. (If I get downrated, it will prolly be for this statement. Heh.)

Um, why exactly is it unfair for people to buy items in this game? Dude, I'm sorry if some of you are on a budget... but here's another scenario...

I work. It takes time... a lot of time. The only thing I get for my time is money. Real money. Now I see all these kids running around in Azeroth with their motorcycles and rare-drop mounts and hard to find pets, and epic items. Is that fair? Some people have the time to get unique items in game, some don't. Some have money, and some don't. Please don't punish everyone just because you're on a budget.

Personally, I like this method because I'm still able to obtain a few of the cool items in the game that I wouldn't otherwise get access to. Not all of them, mind you. You'll probably never see me on that cool mechanical-head mount, and I'm okay with that, provided there are still some incentives to keep me playing the game every month.

Just recieved this a moment ago.

Some facts:

~This mount will scale with your FLYING riding level. (150% Speed to 310% Speed)

~There is an eject button on the little picture of the mount that lets you launch your friends off of the mount.

~It has a cool WW2 shark face paint on the front.

I tested this out by flying over Netherwing Ledge with a passenger. When I transformed into a Fel Orc, the passenger was kicked out and vanished into the nether. I paid his repair bill.

Some facts about the X-53 Touring Rocket:

- This is the only multi-seat flying personal mount available in the game so far, at least until Cataclysm. This fact does makes it a very valuable to have, as it allows two players to ride it. (the Rider himself and the Passenger who sits behind the rider).

- Its only obtainable via Recruit-A-Friend program. It cannot be obtained from Blizzard Store, or with tricks, cards, passwords or other means. Only available via this recruiting program.

- The Zebra mount was used to be the reward in the Recruit-A-Friend before the introduction of the Rocket mount to the game. Now, the ways to get the Zebra mount are completely removed. And thus it is no longer obtainable by any means. However, any player who already got the Zebra at the past, he can keep it forever, and will never lose it if he uses again the Recruit-A-Friend program to get the Rocket mount in addition. (Rocket does not replaces Zebra mount, so you can have both).

- The Rocket mount, unlike the Zebra one, does not gives Feat of Strength. But this may change in the future.

- The rocket, much like any other mounts in the game, counts towards the "Mountain O' Mounts" achievement.

- It comes into 2 versions when used. The Land and the Flying version. Depending on your location, the appropriate version will be used. If you use the rocket in a zone where flying restrictions are applied, the land version will be used. If the area/zone allows flying mounts, the flying version of the mount will be used automatically. Both versions share same model and their only differences are their function as a flyable/non flyable mount, based on the zone/location you are using it.

- No riding skill requirements for the passengers: Anyone can get on the Rocket, regardless of his riding skill.

- Also No Character Level restrictions for the passengers: Anyone is allowed fly as passenger regardless of his character level. (Even a Level 1 Character can fly on the rocket!).

- If a partner is in combat/fight, hes not allowed to get on the rocket. Until the "In Combat" status is lifted from him (defeat the monster first).

- The rocket mount allows you, the owner of it, to have full control of the Passenger's seat. The "Vehicle Seat Indicator" allows you to kick the passenger off the mount anytime as you desire!

- If you are flying in areas restricted for Flying mounts, like in Dalaran City before Cataclysm, you will get auto-dismounted.
(Upon dismount, a Parachute is given to the owner of the mount, for a safe landing. However, the passengers will not be given any automatic parachutes at all, and thus they will die if they don't have any way to reduce fall damage! (Engineering Skill, spells like Slow Fall, etc)

- If you "land" the mount, it may don't have any walking animations like Gryphons, but you will see that the rocket runs at 100% speed, down from 310%.

- This mount cannot be used on non-flying zones indoors or instances. However it is extremely valuable mount to have in the Cataclysm Expansion Pack!

- Leveling in the level 1-20 zones is extremely faster if you have a friend who has this mount!

- The mount's flying speed escalates with the maximum speed your current Riding Skill allows, and the fastest mount you have at that moment. And yes, this means that you may obtain the Rocket with maximum speed at 100%, and once you train your Riding Skill, its speed will increase to 280% or even better, will escalate to 310% speed as soon as you obtain the 310% Riding Skill!

- This mount, like all other flying mounts, obeys to the Mount restrictions of Lake Wintergrasp zone, and thus, its not allowed to be used as a flying mount during the PvP Battleground periods of Wintergrasp. However a land version of it will be used instead.

- Its pointless to mention that the mount can be affected by Crusader Aura and thus becoming an extremely fast mount. It can also be affected by talents that may increase Mounted Speed. Note: Only the Rider can influence the mount's speed, depending on buffs, items or talents by himself or other partners.

- The rocket mount's size escalates with the player's size too (character race, potions, etc)!

-You can swim with this mount in the water! The mount does not dismounts if you enter the water while riding on it. Interestingly enough, if you enter the water and then try use the rocket swimming, you won't be able to use it. The mount requires you to stay out of water (not swimming) so to be used...

- This mount, for some races of the game, (I discovered for Gnomes and Draenei so far) may doesn't fits well. When those races are sitting on its seats, I noticed that the Gnome or Draenei players are floating a bit on the air, above the seats and not sitting properly. But for Human players anything is absolutely fine. (perhaps when the mount was designed, Blizzard used human model for its seats?) But I am pretty sure that this visual issue can be fixed if Blizzard lower a bit the position of all those races on the seat, so they don't look floating.

- When you have a passenger on your mount, and he is talking in any of those Chat Channels that enable Chat Bubbles above the player's head ( /say or /yell channels for example), interestingly enough, the Chat Bubble will NOT appear above that talking passenger, but, instead, it will appear above the player who drives the mount. This gives the false sense that the one who talks is the driver and not the passenger.

- I also confirm the posts by other players above: When the driver of the mount, along with a passenger on it, enters specific areas where the automatic Mount Transformation occurs, much like Netherwing Ledge at Shadowmoon Valley, the Rocket mount will get auto-transformed into a single-seat Netherwing Drake, and thus, the passenger who was on the second seat of the rocket mount, will fall out and vanish into the nether. If the passenger happens to be a Druid, he can switch to his Flight Form and save himself from a possible death.

- Unlike to the above, flying at specific areas of Northrend where Character Transformation occurs upon entry into those areas, including the Brunnhildar Village in the Storm Peaks, the rocket mount will remain intact during the player's transformation, and thus, the passenger will not get kicked out of the mount. However, the passenger, along with the driver, will get the automatic transformation into a female Frost Vrykul, as usual.

- The Disgusting Oozeling, which is known as being a pet that can give its master a greenish aura /recolor. This Aura applies only to the owner of that pet (as a debuff). This pet's aura does not applies to any other players nearby. However, if the owner of the pet mounts up his X-53 Touring Rocket, the rocket mount will get affected by that pet's aura too, and gain the same greenish sickly color. Interesting is the fact that if a second player gets on the rocket (as a passenger), he will gain the pet's aura too! The passenger will get the greenish aura of that pet, however, strangely, he will NOT get the debuff which is the cause of the aura!

Something worth knowing: If you, like I, recruited two people but only ever claimed the Zhevra on one character, you are now able to claim the X-53 Touring Rocket instead, regardless of how long you've had the option to claim the Zhevra. You are no longer able to claim a Zhevra, however.

This mount is ment to make leveling a dupe with a friend easier; if you have a level 80 already you can fly in northrend when you are level 70, while your friend can't fly till level 78. for the rest of the players it's just a luxery to have a 2 player flying mount, so I guess that's why they didn't give em to the other players, yet.

A couple things I have noticed that haven't been mentioned...

The rocket does make a minimal amount of noise while you're riding it. Just a relatively quiet rocket engine-y noise. Not as loud as a chopper/hog.

If you strafe left or right (default Q and E keys if you move with WASD) it will make a SHWOOOM noise, as if you are narrowly skirting an asteroid or something.

You can /dance while riding on it. While this might apply to most, if not all "vehicles," a moonkin in the passenger seat /dancing in particular has interesting results, mainly due to the fact that unlike a chopper/hog or mammoth, the passenger is seated directly behind the driver.

Re: going underwater, while you can indeed go underwater so long as you enter from land, the rocket will not immediately sprout a little cockpit for you or your passenger. As such, you and your passenger CAN DROWN. I would imagine things like equipping the Hydrocane would make it more submarine-like. Although I can't confirm whether such an effect would pass to your passenger. Maybe equipping a Hydrocane or buffing yourself with Water Breathing, then ride one of your friends down into the depths of the ocean, and watch as they realize their peril and attempt to quickly dismount and swim to the surface. It's like ejecting people while high off the ground, except backwards. And more evil.

When you push insert or delete to loop or bunt your mount, the model flies slightly off axis while weaving which looks cool, you can have some fun flying upside down with a mage or priest then dismounting them, having them slowfall or levitate then diving to pick them back up.

If you take someone out over the sea in northrend and get 1/2 a fatigued bar while flying as high as you can, you can then eject them and flay back to safety while they are left falling long enough so as when they hit the water they are already fully fatigued so they take damage leaving them unable to cast hearthstones or portals or teleports or astral recalls and they have to spirit res.

Also when you change direction with the keyboard (I use the mouse to move so I only found this out recently) it makes a "SHWOOOooom" sound. Certainly makes for a nice replacement of my tired old Ulduar drake.

if the passenger and the owner are phased in certain area (icecrown, storm peaks, e.g.) passenger wont be kicked off. The passenger can still see the rider, however the rider cannot see the passenger on the other hand (invisible).

The mount speed scales with your Riding skill. If you have Expert Riding it is 150%, if you have Artisan riding it is 280%. If you have a 310% mount, it will be 310%.

How to get the X-53 Touring Rocket:

First option: You RaF with your friend
1) You go to battle net and connect your account with your friend by sending him/her a RaF request
2) Your friend creates a battle net account with his/her email
3) Your friend accepts and he/she activates the trial key he/she got in his/her email on his/her battle net account
4) Your friend buys Classic WoW and gets 1 month of free game time
5) Your friend pays for his/her second month of game time (first was free, second costed)
6) You get 1 month of free game time
7) Your friend pays for his third month of game time (first was free, second costed, third costed)
8) YOU GET THE ROCKET!
(5, 6 & 7 can be done in 1 if your friend buys a gamecard)

or...

Second option: You RaF with yourself
1) You create a new email address and you create a new battle net account with it
2) You connect your main battle net account with your other battle net account by sending a RaF request and activating the trial key
3) You buy Classic WoW and activate it and you get 1 free month of game time on your other battle net account
4) You pay for your second month of game time for your other battle net account (first was free, second costed)
5) You get 1 month of game time for your main battle net account, free!
6) You pay for your third month of game time for your other battle net account (first was free, second costed, third costed)
7) YOU GET THE ROCKET ON YOUR MAIN BATTLE NET ACCOUNT

You will only get the mount for 1 character so pick carefully.
You may use a gamecard
This will take atleast 30 days (you have a trial, you upgrade to Classic WoW, you get 1 free month = 30 days, you buy a gamecard which is 60 days of gametime = 2 months)
If battle net says you can't RaF, change your country under Account Details to a country where you can RaF, e.g.: Sweden

It seems that B.O.O.M. Rocket Works has reconsidered their parachute policy. A couple lawsuits and all the fun is taken out of things.

After a few hours of running around with my girlfriend, I noticed that every time I dismounted in Azeroth (flying is not available yet) she would be ground floating with a nice big parachute floating above her. After simply being amused by this, I decided to take her to somewhere flying is available and test both methods of removing a passenger, to see if a parachute is deployed. Results were: Passenger Eject: Parachute. Full dismount (both myself and passenger): Passenger received parachute, Driver did not.
It may be worth noting that the passenger parachute did not have a timer. This change sounds like good news for passengers.

The passenger now gets a parachute when he/she is being ejected by the owner, however the owner himself/herself do NOT get a parachute upon leaving the vehicle in the air.

I experienced this the hard way in Stormwind, flew as high as I possible could and ejected myself, well, let's just say that wasn't a pretty sight! :p

As of 4.0.6, they added a jump animation when in an area that is ground mount only.

They also took away the best part of the rocket...

It now makes the "rocket sound" all the time, as opposed to when pressing the jump key. Taking away the blissful silence provided and replacing it with something almost as bad as the constant "whoosh whoosh" of other flying mounts.

I did not see this anywhere in the plethora of comments, and don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I tried this a while back with a friend, followed proper procedure and everything, only to be told my account was "too old" by Blizzard for RaF. I started back in Vanilla, around late 2004/early 2005. Any suggestions?

To eject your passenger you have to click on the yellow dot on the "rocket image" that appears at the right side of the screen. Despite them having a parachute, it is hilarious when you eject someone while flying through the Twisting Nether.

and according to this page some countries are restricted from this service:

Players from outside of these countries; players with trial accounts, or with full accounts with 20 referrals from the "Recruit A Friend" service currently pending, are ineligible.

Therefore if ur country is not on the list... u cannot get this mount.

IMPORTANT: The recruited person needs to be sure to upgrade the trial version of WoW to the retail version instead of purchasing the retail version of WoW independently.

I used a second Email, Battle.net, and WoW account to get my own rocket mount without actually recruiting a friend, and I made this mistake. I followed the instructions that I received in my RAF email to establish a second Battle.net account with an active trial version of WoW, which I had no intention of actually playing. Immediately afterwords, I purchased the retail version of WoW on this account instead of upgrading the existing trial version to the retail version. Since the rewards (mount and in-game perks) were tied to the trial version, and I didn't upgrade the trial version, none of the benefits applied. It is a bit confusing how Blizzard allows you to have a trial version and retail version of WoW set up on a singular Battle.net account (the feature is basically for people who have multiple WoW accounts combined on the same Battle.net account), but I hope I have made my point clear. In any case, you can call account services like I did and they can fix it for you in about two minutes, but you will probably be on hold for half an hour to begin with. It also may not be so simple if you had actually recruited a real person who made this mistake because then they would have to be the one to call and get the issue resolved.

On a side note, to clarify the cost of purchasing the mount for yourself, you will basically be paying for one month of game time ($15) plus the cost of the retail version of WoW ($20). The reason for this is that you will receive one free month of play on your new account, and also one free month of play on your original account because you recruited a "new" player.

I obtained this mount yesterday.
It seems that when you dismount, with a passenger, the passenger gets a parachute but you don't.

As of a recent patch (unsure which) the driver can no longer eject passengers (at least, I was unable to) and the passenger cannot leave this vehicle (patch 4.1)!

They -will- be granted a parachute upon dismounting! You however, won't.

I'm posting to clear up any misconceptions players may have about recruiting themselves.

There is NO PROBLEM sending the invite to your current battle.net registered email. I play the AH pretty heavily, and a couple of competitors of mine were dual boxing their bank alts so they could play while they were also able to continue undercutting their auctions. I was tired of being undercut relentlessly as soon as I logged off and resolved to sink to the same level in order to remain competitive. Obtaining the mount & game time were considered secondary perks and not really a deal breaker for me, I have already recruited a couple actual friends (who love the game, btw) and have both the Zhevra and the touring rocket on my main.

That said, I successfully started a second account on my battle.net through Recruit-a-Friend, and have received both my free game time and the mount. All that was required was sending the RAF email to my existing battle.net email. Then logging into my battle.net and adding an additional account using the code provided in the email.

I had no hangups or issues with the process and both accounts continue to function problem free. As an additional bonus, all accounts under the same battle.net will use the same authenticator, which was great news because I would have definitely bought one to protect the amount of gold my bank alt handles.

As a final note, TBC is now included with WoW retail accounts and the RAF XP bonus has been extended to level 80. If you plan on RAFing, do so with a greater purpose than simply obtaining a $50 mount. Use it to level up some toons on your main account to wotlk content, use it as a second account for auctioneering or xfaction arbitrage, or simply use it as a means to experience the multiboxing playstyle. After all, $50 gives you access to a lot of perks you'd not otherwise have...not just a new mount.

I had referred a friend on 4/27/2009 12:48 PM, and have been upset ever since that I never got my Zhevra. Then, when traversing the Recruit a Fan FAQ I noticed that you have to claim it manually from the account management section on battle.net. I went and checked, and sure enough, I could claim a mount. However, it was the X-53, not the Zhevra! Super glad I got the cooler flying mount with an extra seat.

If the driver disconnects (as happened to a friend of mine yesterday) there is no parachute -- and no way to get out. Apparently you just sit there and wait until you fall to your death.

For (not so bright) diabolical people: You cannot kill your friend riding with you. Friend I was riding with flew very high up and tried to dismount/kill me for kicks. She died.

I have received this mount for recruiting a friend and was wondering if I can use it on a level 20 toon? I want to give it to my lowbie so I can get some good use out of it or does it have to be a level 60 toon that can fly? I know it would be just a regular ride munt at level 20 but can you learn it at that point... Wowhead shows it able to learn at 20 but on the battlenet claim screen it say must be level 60.

When you go to claim it it says this...

Anybody referring a friend intending to use this mount with your friend or other players should be aware of this. There is an issue, ongoing for several months that blizzard is well aware of, where the mounted passenger gets "kicked off" any 2 seat flying mount. If this issue exists for you, i urge you to open a ticket demanding compensation as an account credit for denial of service (game not working as promised). Perhaps nobody will ever get a credit, but blizzard will know exactly how many paying players are not in the least happy about an issue that is known, ongoing, and being completely ignored by blizzards. I think several months is plenty of time to fix this issue, they can code a patch every week, which we wait 8 hours for them to implement, surely in several months they could fix this issue. Basically, if you are referring a friend and get this promised 2 seater mount, you should demand that it works. The latest tickets i submitted stated paraphrased "we know about the issue, it isn't fixed yet, so don't use your 2 seat flying mount" Not the exact wording, but that's the general idea of blizzards "solution" to an ongoing issue.

Blizzard's Recruit-A-Friend Program gives you multiple reward choices! You can only pick one reward per account recruited. The reward is made available in-game through the social tab on the chat window to the recruiting or "veteran" account after the new recruited account has paid for two months of game subscription time. A pop-up message lets you know if you have a new reward ready to choose.

Mount Reward Options:
Swift Zhevra teaches Swift Zhevra - The original RAF mount, ground-only. Grants the achievement Friends In High Places.
X-53 Touring Rocket teaches X-53 Touring Rocket - The second RAF mount, a 2-seater rocket. Gives the achievement Friends In Even Higher Places.
Heart of the Nightwing teaches Obsidian Nightwing - The third RAF mount, which transforms the owner into a winged black catlike mount that can carry a passenger on your back. Grants the achievement Friends In Places Higher Yet.
Emerald Hippogryph teaches Emerald Hippogryph - A lovely green and orange hippogryph mount. Gives the achievement Friends In Places Even Higher Than That.
Cindermane Charger teaches Cindermane Charger - A blackened winged horse covered in bright orange flames. Grants the achievement Friends In Places Yet Even Higher Than That.

And pets, originally available only as limited-time rewards on the Chinese & Taiwan servers:

I have all of the mounts from RAFing a second account several times. If you're debating which reward to choose, I'd recommend either of the two-seater mounts: X-53 Touring Rocket or Obsidian Nightwing. The ability to carry a passenger is perfect for your RAF adventures!

Since the last update to RAF was the addition of the Cindermane Charger in early 2015, it seems that we might be due for a new RAF promotion sometime soon.

Funny thing with the X-53 Touring Rocket is that if you drink some Noggenfogger Elixir (one or thirty-four lol) until you get the 'You feel smaller...' effect, hop on your rocket and ask a friend to jump on it, he will not see his size reduce. Best is to get a Tauren on your rocket while you are tiny. It looks hilarious!

I updated a screenshot of my Troll Hunter riding my X-53 Touring Rocket with a Tauren on the back seat. It just looks like the Tauren is riding the rocket, you can barely see me!

Mine just vanished. Hopefully this is a patch-glitch that will be repaired in the next day or two. This is my favorite mount, and I would be really heartbroken if it were gone.

I just logged on and mine is gone as well. Members of my guild are telling me that Blizzard inadvertently removed all RAF mounts with this patch. I have yet to receive correspondence from Blizzard to that effect, but I imagine, they are inundated with complaints and tickets because of it.

Blizzard's official response, "We're fixing an issue that causes some players' pets and mounts to disappear. If one of your pets or mounts vanished from your in-game journal, please wait and check your journal again after our next realm restart. Your missing pets and mounts should reappear then."

I've had passengers just die on this mount. They get a 'you died' message in log but no details beyond that. Only started happening since 9.1.

Available for 100 Trader's Tender in the February 2024 Trading Post rotation. It is a two-seater flying mount and former RaF-reward. Getting the mount used to award Friends In Even Higher Places but based on previous occurrences of FoS-rewarding items in the trading post like the Swift Zhevra the FoS will most likely not be awarded for a purchase from the Trading Post.
