Just got this little guy on the ptr, He does infact wear the banners that you are entitled to wear (for myself silvermoon and org) I've posted some screenshots just waiting for them to be approved. but a quick few facts

Yes it does count towards your pet count
Yes he is the same model as the orc orphans you help for childrens week (except he carrys a tiny sword and shield)
To change the banner he is using you just have to talk to him and then you chose which to use

And yes, he does go on a leash for you sick and twisted people :P

When you summon your pet, your character does a whistling animation and whistling sound as well, then the Argent Gruntling will blow a trumpet (You won't hear it if you aren't standing on a small platform, but the people near him when he spawns will hear it) and run towards you from a random direction.
Also note that summoning him does not trigger GCD.

The Argent Gruntling also has a unique swimming animation.

The things inside the Argent Gruntling's bag are a large baget, a small cheese wheel, a orange, a rolled up scroll (Probably a map) and a book, Tied to the sides of the backpack are a lantern and a frying pan. At the bottom of the bag is tied a rolled sheet of cloth, it's probably a blanket/sleeping bag.

My friend takes this, the leash, and as an male undead, walks naked around org.

I'm halfway surprised he doesn't get thrown into jail by the grunts.

tried on other pets, they work fine. even !@#$roach will fetch a ball, but this kid wont?

My guild took some time out of killling things in Naxx last nite to play around with our young wards. (on a side note, some people have been asking for ages for the ability to actually adopt a child ingame, well, here it is!)

Results: You can talk to other people's orphans (in a raid situation, not sure yet about random people) and can even get the dialog to display YOUR faction's banner. However, being smarter than your average pet, the Gruntling does not actually display the banner until his guardian requests it; after which nobody can talk to the orphan.

Adding to the above: Being the same race as the Gruntling's guardian and so being able to request the 'proper' faction banner (i.e., whichever banner(s) the guardian would be able to display) makes no difference. If the person asking isn't the person whose name appears over his head, the Gruntling isn't going to heft that heavy flag.

Sadly, the Gruntlings are no better than normal pets about jumping. Hopping down into Gluth's room strands the orphan on the ledge above. Pity.

Gruntlings do NOT pop Frogger oozes. However, it was somewhat hard to tell for certain since getting the Gruntling close enough meant that the player usually hit the ooze instead.

Bliz hotfixed the pet ball, which I think is a big mistake. What's wrong with playing fetch with your 'child'?

This is a really fun pet to have out. Its already big enough but when used with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=35223 it is HUGE. I submitted a screenshot of myself with mine next to me just after fishing in the sewers in Dalaran. Its nice company and got a lot of people coming over to look at him haha.

There is a bug when if you talk to another persons Gruntling or Squire and ask his/her Squire/Gruntling to display your flag it will instead appear on yours AND if you ask another different Gruntling/Squire or the same one if they resummoned without a flag it will appear on your Squire/Gruntling as well so you can show off your 5 flags!

Kinda looks strange though with all the 5 flags...

You cannot use a pet leash on this mob, sadly. :[.
You can however use a pet biscuit. It size increases to just under a tauren. It's flag is also very big.

....didn't you used to get this guy only after becoming champion for all five races? Or was it that the vendor in the crusader's tent sold him... either way, I'm pretty sure it wasn't this easy to get him before.

If you mount up he also gets on a very tiny pony and speeds up to follow you around, and he'll dismount when you do.

Certainly a homely fellow, but he's easily one of the most useful companion pets in the game if you get the Argent Pony Bridle for him. I've had him for a few years now (with the argent pony bridle) and I've used the mail, vender and bank countless times.

He also makes some pretty hilarious sounds when you click on him (one of which sounds something like a "do-do-doo" - to the rescue?).

Apart from all of that, I believe he's supposed to be something of a "squire", as knights of olden times had squires that would accompany them into battle to bear their standard (among other duties, of course).

I generally use this (in conjunction with Argent Pony Bridle) when I'm trying to clear up bag space, far from a city (like in a dungeon). Other items you could use for the same purpose include:

Guild Page / Guild Herald, if the requirements to buy have been met.
Mobile Banking, if your guild's high enough lvl.
Jeeves, if you're an engineer / one's present.
Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth / Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, if you're able to mount.

Maybe my memory is cloudy but, didn't he have an ability to display flags of the Argent Crusade and a combination of Horde flags once a player has become a crusader? At the moment I can only choose between 5 Horde factions.

just faction changed to alliance and he didnt turn into Argent Squire. I suppose it is because of the new pet system where every character has access to every pet. So looks like I will need to get the alliance one somehow.

Anyone know if the Argent Pony Bridle still works on him I summoned him to send him to my bank and it did not give me the option. In fact it did not give me any options. This is the first time i tried using him since the Kung Fu Panda expansion.

With MoP extension you can summon this pet with any character.
But I get acces to my bank and a trader only on my main character (the one who obtained the gruntling).
Does anybody know what do I have to do to gain access to the bank/trader on other characters?

The pony is bound on the character and not accountwide. The same with all functions. The are only for the character active who bought it.

Regarding faction change and this pet and alliance version

Original Question:
I faction changed from horde to alliance and I can no longer use my argent gruntling because I am now alliance. Why did I not receive an argent squire since I was already fully championed with tournament.

In game ticket response from GM:
Sorry for the confusion this issue with your Argent Gruntling caused. However, pets that have been learned do not convert after a faction change. If you wish to have the Alliance version, you will need to champion yourself with the Argent Tournament again and purchase that pet.

*update
The GM was able to apply the proper faction pet to my character, since the quests were not available to me since I was awarded the "Exalted Champion of" achievements. However a ticket needs to be created for this correction to be made to the character.

Faction changed to Horde and also changed my race to Pandaren. This companion is currently impossible to get for that character since the Argent Tournament isn't working correctly for pandas. Got this reply from a ticket:

Thank you for contacting us! I'm sorry to hear you were affected by issues with issues with quests available from the Sunreavers of the Argent Tournaments after your faction change to Pandaren - we're aware of this and hope to have this fixed as soon as possible! I do sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Carefull with faction change

After 3 tickets they still can't restore my quest progression and refuse to give me the pet. Why? Who knows... Some lines from one of the GM letters:

GM: I'm sorry to say, nothing in which we've tried has had any effect. We are not able to make questing possible for you sadly. It's true that the bug has effected many players for some time, sadly however in your case there is nothing we can do and we must ask you to submit a bug report please.

Once you upgrade it with a pony, you get this options:
-Visit a Bank
-Visit a Trader
-Visit a Mailbox
...becoming the most useful pet in your list... you can use that during a battleground, dungeon, raid, even underwater.

This post is for those of you who just want to complete enough quests to get the Argent Squire/Argent Gruntling for your pet collections. My main toon is Horde and I've had this pet since wrath. This expansion though, I wanted to get the Alliance one for my pet collection.

It takes 8 days of dailies to obtain. You need to do all opening quests in order to have the dailies appear for you. Then you must complete Up to the Challenge which takes 3 days (5 seals/day). Then The Aspirant's Challenge. Then A Valiant's Charge which takes 5 days (5 seals/day. Then A Valiant's Challenge. Then you will receive A Champion Rises. You simply have to hand in this quest to obtain your pet.

I did not list the dailies involved to complete the story line quests but you should note that if you are ONLY interested in obtaining the Argent Squire/Gruntling, you DO NOT have to complete the dailies that are in the main tent on the West side of the tournament grounds. You only need to complete the ones in the smaller, single faction tents on the East side of the stadium. You will not receive any Aspirant's or Valiant's seals from the main tent. Only Champion seals. If you wish to collect mounts, Pony Bridle or other tournament pets, you should definitely complete those ones as well. I did not need them because as I said I completed all the achievement's and collected all mounts and pets the tournament had to offer in the past on Horde side. This post is intended for player's who ONLY WANT the opposing factions Squire/Gruntling.

Below is a summary of various ways to access a mailbox remotely

GUMM-E Location: Anywhere	3 hrs.	5 mins.	Bind on Use. 3 charges. Can be auctioned or traded. Can be used by anyone, of any level. Obtained in your Level 2 or 3 garrison Engineering Works building if a follower with the Engineering trait is assigned to it (e.g. Kimzee Pinchwhistle). Once used, mailbox can be accessed by other members of your faction. This item is Unique from other Engineering Workshop Items. This means out of all of the items available from a follower at the Engineering Works, you can only have ONE in your inventory at any time. These items are: - Ultra-Electrified Reflector - Gyro-Radiant Reflector - Walter - GUMM-E
Argent Gruntling (H) OR Argent Squire (A) + Argent Pony Bridle Location: Anywhere	4 hrs.	3 mins.	The pet Argent Gruntling/Argent Squire is obtained as a quest reward after becoming a Champion at the Argent Tournament. The Argent Pony Bridle is available for 150 Champion's Seal from Dame Evniki Kapsalis at the Argent Tournament. Using the Argent Pony Bridle "upgrades" your gruntling/squire, allowing access to ONE of the following every every 4 hours: - Mailbox - Vendor - Bank The option you select is usable by interacting with your gruntling/squire. Selecting any one option makes the other two unavailable until the 4 hor cooldown has passed. Whichever option you choose each time is available to use for 3 minutes, after which access ends. Once used, mailbox can only be accessed by you.
Talonpriest Ishaal Location: Draenor only	None	Unlimited	The follower Talonpriest Ishaal is available after completing Between Arak and a Hard Place/Between Arak and a Hard Place (finishing all quest storylines in Spires of Arak). Ishaal has the Bodyguard ability, and can be assigned to the garrison Barracks Level 2 to act as your personal bodyguard. After doing this, killing mobs that grant experience will provide reputation with Talonpriest Ishaal; upon reaching the third level of reputation (Personal Wingman), this follower grants the ability Ishaal Perk: Courier Raven, allowing Mailbox access while in Draenor. Mailbox access via Talonpriest Ishaal is only available to you, and only when Talonpriest Ishaal is with you. This does not work in Ashran or Warspear/Stormshield, where followers are not active.

Sadly this little dude did not get an appearance update like all the other children. Neither did the Argent Squire. Hopefully they were just overlooked. Maybe they'll be updated in a later patch.

i just noticed, but my character was alliance when i got it, and transfered to horde. now i dont have the argent gruntling. i have 2 argent squire. anyone get the issue with it not transfering over?

The alliance counterpart to this is Argent Squire.

If you are wondering why it doesn't yet have a mailbox, it's because you need to upgrade it with an item you purchase that only becomes available after earning the right tor represent all of your faction's races in the Argent Tournament. It's five days of dailies per race and, so, 25 days worth of dailies total. You then need 150 Champion's Seal to purchase the item.

So, you get the pet way before then, but it does you no good (purely aesthetic, not even a battle pet) until you get this upgrade.

For those of you who faction changed your character who already had the Argent Gruntling/Squire previously, and find yourselves unable to use your old one (since it's the old faction's), talk to a Stable Master and click on the option for lost companion. The new faction's version should be there for sale. Mine was 40 silver.

For those who just want it on their Horde character.

1) Do opening Argent Tournament quests.

2) Complete the 5 days of dailies.

3) Defeat the Champion.

4) Turn in quest to Justicar Mariel Trueheart at the pavilion, receive Argent Gruntling as your just reward.
