War has finally ended. No side won.
The war between the Alliance and Horde had dragged on for years, claiming entire families in its wake. Men, women, children of all ages, none were spared its horror in the long run. The lands are torn asunder by violence, the nations had their wills cracked by the violence and mended by hatred. But such was only a temporary bandage, one that quickly proved unable to fully repair the growing weariness in their hearts.
The war ended not with a bang, but with a whimper. All sides threw down their weapons and fell back into themselves. Deadened on the inside from years of fighting, they no longer had a reason to continue to battle. The hatreds of old were fires that had finally burnt out after blazing so bright and so hot, and they left the spirits and hearts of those they had burned within cinders, just as the war had left much of the land.
As the war ended, so too did what had for so long been known as the Alliance and the Horde. The factions of each retreated into themselves, still loosely tied together with friends on all sides, but no more could they truly be considered part of a unified group. The Forsaken, the Gnomes, the Tauren, the Draenei, the Humans and the Orcs, they all retreated into the hearts of their own lands to try and regain what the war had taken from them.
But even after death, fires leave cinders. And cinders can still burn. The tensions of old never truly died, even though the will to fight a war had. Two years after the war ended, the factions emerged from their lands to lay claim to lands they had possessed or taken possession of before the war. This posed a problem, however, as many factions each claimed similar areas of land.
But the spirit for war was long dead, and thus none wished to begin the war they had only so recently put a stop to. However, the want of territory was not so easily set aside, and so a summit was held to decide what should be done. The original intension was to, finally, settle all disputes there, but the leaders of each faction quickly realized the impossibility of that goal and settled on a different solution; a traditional solution.
Conflict.
Not open war, with machines and chemicals designed to kill, but small, contained conflicts between select groups of heroes, whose fighting spirits were not so easily squelched. These heroes, representatives of each faction, would do battle against each other, and the winner would lay claim to whatever territories were in dispute.
This idea was passed, but not nearly as clean-cut as it had been proposed. Alterations were made, locations designated specifically for these battles, methods of determining how much and what kind of land could be put up for wager, what kind of powers could be used in these battles to ensure equal footing, and, most importantly, at what points these battles would take place. These things required time to orchestrate, time to fully develop, and though heroes were chosen quickly, and more continued to line up to prove their mettle by this new means, time must be taken for these criteria to be met.
This means also brought with it new problems; the rise of new factions. When former antagonists heard of this ploy, broken and wounded they too were, they stepped from the Shadows and demanded inclusion. The Twilight’s Hammer, the Shadow Council, the Zandali and more, these and many more declared that if the loosely unified factions of the Alliance and Horde could participate in these battles than so could they. Their goal was simple; grow their power, grow their territory, complete the goals they had so long ago sought to see reach fruition. The broken Horde and Alliance, unwilling to send armies even to these resurgent and reinvigorated foes, reluctantly agreed.
And thus the new era of Azeroth’s history of conflict begins…
The Rules:
All heroes are permitted the use of five abilities only in a match, predetermined before entry. One of these abilities may be much more powerful than the rest, but it may not be used until the match has progressed sufficiently.
All heroes participating in a battle must be present for it, or they will be immediately replaced by another eligible applicant.
No heroes may be slain on the fields of battle, though anything short of that is permitted. Healers are on standby to ensure they are not lost.
All heroes are allowed to go about their business elsewhere as they see fit, so long as they do not violate the aforementioned rules.
In short, this is the Warcraft universe if it had taken on some of the political ideas of the League of Legends universe (I have been playing that game WAY too much, lately). Don’t worry, though; everything you need to know is stated above. This is not a crossover, none of the League of Legend’s universe, aside from the faint touch of this idea of settling disputes, it present, so don’t worry about having to research it or any such thing.
Although Tol Barad is the official starting point for anyone looking to participate in these events, it should be noted that this does not mean you have to start there or have to go through the process of signing your character up. You may do so if you wish to, but you may also already say that any characters you wish to use are already on the roster and reader for battle.
While this will have some structure to it, it is also a sandbox RP. Although the most fun may be had if you choose to participate in the story conflict, the world is, technically, free-range and post-MoP. So go forth and adventure, and have PLENTY of characters on hand to do so. And, most importantly; enjoy!

State of the Factions:
The Orcs:
Now led by Warchief Thura Saurfang, they are ever-willing to fight but their warrior spirit has been tempered by its weariness. Based out of Durotar they seek claim in the lands as far out as Ashenvale and Stonetalon Mountains, as well as points within the Badlands they had previous held before. The trolls, though nearby neighbors, are no longer as close as they once were due to the – although needed – assassination of Garrosh Hellscream by Vol’jin.
The Humans:
Varian Wrynn was slain in battle against Garrosh, leaving Anduin true King of Stormwind. Though young and though cut off from his greatest mentor, Velen, he is wise and intelligent. The refugees of Lordaeron and Stormgarde have taken up residence within their comrades’ nation as well, and while those who live in Stormwind seek only to maintain their holdings in Duskwood, those from Lordaeron wish to see their homeland regained; though Tirisfal is out of bounds by the rules of the summit, the Plaguelands, their healing delayed and even subverted by the now-dead war, are still ripe for the taking. Those from Stormgade, likewise, wish to reclaim their old homeland in the Arathi Highlands, though the Zandali Alliance and Forsaken both vie with them for control of the area.
The Gnomes and the Dwarves:
The only faction to maintain its alliance post the fall of the Alliance, the gnomes and the dwarves seek to hold onto the Badlands from the will of the orcs as well as take back the lands of their heritage: Uldum specifically (the ruling Tol’vir race a casualty of the war). This has put them at odds with the elves of Silvermoon as well, who seeks to expand its magical power with knowledge from these ancient lands. Tensions still run high within the dwarves as well, and who knows what the future holds for them.
The Blood and High Elves:
The elves of Silvermoon are one of the few races that have no territory being disputed over for the others, however, this and a general assuredness amongst them that war is merely a slip away has made them all but insatiable for want of land. Largely due in part to the growing power of the Reliquary, who seeks to increase Silvermoon’s power through the discovery and usage of magical artifacts located in the old lands of the Titans and demons (specifically Felwood and the Blasted Lands).
The Draenei:
The Draenei, though peaceful, are also drawn into this conflict by their ties to the Broken in the Swamp of Sorrows and the now-defunct Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands. Driven by their want to aid their fallen brothers in the Swamps, they have come into conflict with the orcs, and driven by their want to ensure the Dark Portal is never opened again, no matter the cost, they have come into conflict with a variety of groups – Silvermoon, the orcs, the worgen – who all have stakes in that land for one reason or another as well.
The Worgen:
Genn Greymane is dead, perished in the war while protecting his family, and Mia Greymane followed soon after from grief. Leading Gilneas now is his daughter, Tess Greymane, who due to the deaths of her parents and the stress of responsibility of leading her people has become as bitter and cold as her father used to be. She took the worgen curse upon herself as a symbol of Gilneas’ strength, and now only a handful of pure-human Gilneans remain within its lands – forbidden to leave but also unwilling to sacrifice their humanity. The worgen are deeply embittered with the Forsaken for control over the lower half of Silverpine as well as want to expand their empire into Hillsbrad. Even the humans of Stormwind are in conflict with them due to the presence of Worgen in Duskwood; which Tess now claims gives them a right to the land through racial identity.
The Forsaken:
Surprisingly, the war mellowed Sylvanas and tempered her bloodlust. As all but the sole last of her Val’kyr died off resurrecting her from assassination attempt after assassination attempt, she realized how dire the plight of the Forsaken truly was and renounced much of her violent ways. However, a people still require a home, and the Plaguelands and Silverpine forest, as well as the holdings they had previously set up in Hillsbrad, provide that. The old war between the living and the dead rages on and strong because of the Forsaken’s need to survive, no matter the cost.
The Night Elves:
Unsurprisingly, the night elves lay claim to Ashenvale and Stonetalon, as well as Azshara due to its history with their people. This has put them in conflict with the tauren, orcs, and blood elves – who see Azshara as another land worthy of their attention for magical artifacts – and though Tyrande and Malfurion lead them as well they can, the Cenarion Circle has pulled their support from them in order to focus their attentions of healing the land. For the first time since before the Legion’s second invasion, the Kaldorei are alone once more.
Goblin:
The goblins, ever greedy and all unified out of fear, seek control of a variety of locations in order to expand on their own internal profits. Stranglethorn Vale – putting them into conflict with the Zandali and Darkspear trolls – Stonetalon – putting them into conflict with the tauren, night elves, and orcs – Tanaris – putting them into conflict with the trolls of the Zandali Alliance seeking to unify what few of their brothers are there, and the night elves seeking to help defend the lands of their old dragon allies. And many, many more.
The Darkspear Trolls:
Vol’jin has long retreated into himself, unable to bear the weight of the world and what happened despite his best efforts and the end of the war. Master Gadrin and Zen’tabra – no longer a member of the Cenarion Circle – now lead the Darkspear, who want one thing above all; their ancestral lands back. The Echo Islands are off limits as par the rules decided by the summit, but Stranglethorn is sought after by many forces, one of these being the Zandali, still seeking a reunified troll empire. They also lay claim to the other lands of the Zandali Alliance – including portions of the Kun-lai summit and areas of the Hinterlands – putting them at odds with the dwarves as well due to the Arie Peaks.
The Tauren:
Though neither land-hungry nor warmongering, the tauren maintain that they have rights to certain areas and are willing to battle for them. Stonetalon and the Northern Barrens they claim are ancestral homes and rights of theirs, putting them into conflict with the night elves and orcs, and the Southern Barrens, putting them at odds with the dwarves and Twilight’s Hammer, who believe the presence of old Silithid hives in the area give them right to it. Also deserted by the Circle, they must fend for themselves, and Baine Bloodhoof does the best he can to lead them.
The Pandaren:
The Pandaren have land disputes for their territories mostly stemming from the Zandali Alliance and Darkspear, but the orcs also claim that certain areas of pandaria are their due to the war, and the Twiligt’s Hammer also believe that the Sha’s presence gives them the right to much of the land as well. Pandaria had known peace for ages, but it seems as if they never shall again.
The Zandali Alliance:
Comprised of the Gurubashi, the Amani, the Zandali, and the remains of the Sandfury, this alliance of trolls seeks to retake all of their lands, and from there all of Azeroth. While the blood elves face off against them in Quel’thalas, and the Darkspear in a number of other locations, they are resilient in their goals. If trolls can be noted for one thing, it is their ability to carry on throughout conflict.
The Twilight’s Hammer:
Though broken and wounded the Hammer remains strong. Led by the Twilight Father Benedictus, his secret now known to all, they seek to reclaim all the lands that have been touched by an Old God presence – Darkshore, the Twilight Highlands, Grim Batol, and many other locations – they have carved out a strong number of heroes through worship and experimentation. The Old Gods may be all but dead, but their followers live on and continue to praise their name.
The Shadow Council:
Led from Jaedenar by the few demons and demonkin races that remain on Azeroth, the Shadow Council still seeks to bring the Legion to Azeroth, though their masters are defeated heavy handed during the war. Their ability to summon from the Nether has not diminished, and along with a few of their champions they have a number of lesser demons – the greatest prevented from participating by the rules of the summit – at their disposal. They seek to take all of Desolace, as well as the Blasted Lands, and from there expand out into the surrounding territories.
Location Changes:
The Dark Portal:
The Portal to Outland collapsed upon itself during the height of the last Legion invasion, trapping all on the other side (including former-warchief Thrall and his family) in Outland permanently. No efforts have been made to reopen it, though the Shadow Council may attempt so if they reclaim the Blasted Lands.
Northrend:
Controlling the Scourge proved more difficult than Bolvar had anticipated, and the return of the Legion and their attempt to retake him as a puppet all but ruined that control. The Scourge washed over Northrend and extinguished all life remaining there. Thankfully the Legion was defeated before the Scourge could spread out from their icy home, but Northrend is now merely a deathtrap where only the bravest of adventurers dare to tread. No land conflicts are present there.
The Caverns of Time:
Nozdormu sealed the caverns once more, what lies within is unknown. Even so, those who had once called him ally seek to protect him and attempt to wrest Tanaris from the others.
Karazhan:
Karazhan still stands. Though Med’an himself fell during the final battle against the Old Gods, the Council of Tirisfal still remains and meets within its halls from time to time. With the presumed resignation of its older members, however, its current membership is unknown to all.
Tol Barad:
The prisoners within were all summarily executed. Tol Barad now serves as the main staging point for all contestants seeking to participate in these battles. Ownership of Tol Barad was decided at the summit: and the humans of Stormwind now play host to all heroes looking to participate, albeit somewhat grudgingly.

Character:
Lord Rivendare
Location: Outside the Diplomatic Headquarters, Tol Barad
The death knight looked over the fresh meat: faceless, for the time, but all more than ready to test themselves upon these new fields of battle.
He had been one of the first to request admission to these trials, one of the first to be signed up to do battle upon these fields. There was no lie; with the war dead and gone there were few ways to garner respect amongst one’s peers anymore, but this had the potential to do so. Were he on the fields of a victorious battle, word would reach his brothers and sisters in race, and thus he would garner some admiration from them.
And he had plans on what do to with that admiration…
But those were thoughts for another time. He was here to eye the competition, and he would do just that. Dartskul and Shadowheart were also signed up, but he was unsure how many others with ties to the Forsaken would be taking part… He would have to wait and see.
Character:
Curho Demoneye
,
Lak’tuk Demoneye
Location: Jaedenar, Felwood
Curho was disgusted.
If anything, NOW was the time to strike at their enemies! They were weakened, in body in soul, but instead the council had opted to take a more subtle route, one that had fewer risks. However, they also failed to account for that it would be more difficult to attain their goals by playing by the rules of the splintered Alliance and Horde.
Cowardice was not the way of the Legion; the Shadow Council were acting like fools.
Regardless… he would see to it that they did not fail. He had already proclaimed himself as a participant in these matches, and those running the admissions had allowed this. Karng was also a participant, but this was merely another reason Curho needed to be there: to keep an eye on the death knight.
“Father,” Lak’tuk walked up to the Grand Warlock, a missive in her hands. “The reports of the first factions to participate in battle have arrived.” He held the letter towards him.
Curho snatched it away and looked at it. Orcs… Night Elves… Ah, they were up to battle the Tauren for their claim to Desolace. The Tauren sought the land due to its ties to their precious kudos, and in order to keep the Council from claiming that which had already been tainted by the Legion. Soon, though, their influence over that region would spread and consume it fully. From there, all of Azeroth would follow.
“The Council will want to know of this as well,” Lak’tuk said to him.
Curho rolled the missive up and nodded. “Indeed, and they shall. Come, we will assemble them to discuss what shall be done.” The elder Demoneye strode away, and Lak’tuk followed behind.
Character:
Ormador of Argus
Location: The Exodar
Ormador sat in silent meditation a silent portion of the Vault of Lights. Here, surrounded by the Holy Light, he could best focus his mind and soul and separate the two halves of his soul: peace and fury. Peace while at rest, fury while at battle. That was how it should be, thus it was how it was for him.
The Draenei had suffered; he had been there to see all of it. From Argus as a small boy to Draenor as a man, he had seen horror after horror befall his people. The war against the Horde, the bitterest enemies his people had ever had, was not gone, no, he knew it was only abaited. Its bloodlust sated for it to start up against when it required more sacrifice. It was the way of this world, and the rise of these new means of “diplomacy” was proof of that.
He stood, his hooves clacking against the floor, and stepped from his meditation room. He was finished for now, but he would return soon. The time for the draenei to be involved in the coming conflict was rapidly approaching, and he would have to be ready for it. He participated in these conflicts to right the wrongs of the past, and to keep his skills honed for when war broke out in total once again.
He headed for the Trader’s Teir.
