This section of the Discipline Priest guide explains the best possible choices for the Netherlight Crucible, important traits and relic bonuses, and how to progress through your artifact weapon Light's Wrath. The author of this guide is Jak or AutomaticJak, Priest Healer for Vision on US-Kel'thuzad. He's been raiding in WoW for almost 6 years straight with his most recent accomplishments of finishing Mythic Nighthold US - 15, World 69th. Updated for the latest patch.
Artifacts in Battle for Azeroth
As of June 26th, completing the quest
The Power in Our Hands
will further empower your Artifact Weapon, enabling all traits and at least
Concordance of the Legionfall
level 75, further increasing in power over time until the Battle for Azeroth pre-expansion patch.
Therefore, only the Netherlight Crucible recommendations are relevant on this guide page leading up to BFA, as you already receive all Artifact Traits by default. This makes content easier to complete, especially some
content going away
such as
Ahead of the Curve
and
Mage Tower Challenges
.
In the
BFA pre-patch
, your Artifact Traits will be removed, and relics will simply increase the item level of your artifact weapon. However, many artifact traits are returning as talents or azerite powers in Battle for Azeroth and we have a compiled a
full list you can read here
.
Moving forward in Battle for Azeroth, you will still be able to acquire the Artifact Weapon which will mainly interest transmog collectors for the appearances. Learn how to unlock all appearances in BFA with our
Artifact Appearance Guide

Artifact Weapon:
Light's Wrath
Netherlight Crucible
The
Netherlight Crucible
is a new system added in Patch 7.3. The Crucible allows you further empower your Disc Priest Artifact Weapon, by specializing and increasing the power from your relics. With it, each relic receives a small talent tree that you can select new traits from, depending how many traits your weapon have. Do not worry, however, because with the changes to
Artifact Knowledge
, unlocking the full power of the Crucible won't take long. Learn everything about this new system in our
Netherlight Crucible Guide
.
The traits unlock as you spend points into
Concordance of the Legionfall
.
The first tier of unlocks happens as you unlock the crucible giving you +5 item level per relic. (total of 15 item levels).
Shadow/Light Traits
The Second tier of unlocks happens at 60,63,66.
The traits unlock randomly but below is a rough priority for which traits to chose if given the choice between them. It is worth noting that as a healer the game will force at least one of your "Shadow" or "Holy" Traits to be a throughput increase, the other however can be a damage trait. The following is a relative ranking of the traits for Discipline. With the opening of
Antorus, the Burning Throne
, it is now possible to obtain
Insignia of the Grand Army
, which increases the potency of your Tier 2 Crucible traits by 50%. It might be a really strong legendary if you are lucky with Netherlight Crucible rolls!
Holy:
Light Speed
- Solid, consistent Haste boost that will offer a good healing increase
Refractive Shell
- Good shielding offering extra effective health
Secure in the Light
- Extra damage with potential for extra shielding protection
Infusion of Light
- Similar extra damage with the potential to heal now
Shocklight
- Random proc grows more powerful. Uncontrollable nature unfortunately makes this difficult to take advantage of.
Light's Embrace
- Hard to utilize as a healer and often not powerful enough to make an actual difference in the heavy damage of progression raiding.
Shadow:
Most of the Shadow traits are damage traits which can work very well for Disc, for other healer specs they will be considerably less attractive.
Master of Shadows
- Strong stat increase and personal survivability with the bonus avoidance. Priest is often plagued by its lack of personals, so additional damage reduction is very helpful
Chaotic Darkness
- Wide variance in potential performance but very high potential, especially when compared to other options.
Shadowbind
- Allows leech-like effect of healing and damage.
Murderous Intent
- Random versatility proc added onto the Concordance effect. Randomness is a concern, especially with more stats/bonuses being focused into a small window of time
Torment the Weak
- Light DoT with high uptime. Offers trickle Atonement healing, but does not synergize well with Disc's rampup/burst style or the ever increasing burstiness of boss encounters
Dark Sorrows
- Niche effect that is extremely poor on single target, and would require a high number of targets to beat out other traits above. The tier's thusfar have had few in the way of consistent high-enemy encounters, so it will be very difficult for this trait to see much promises
As it stands right now taking
Master of Shadows
will always be the priority option being better than all of the Light traits AND all of the shadow traits, mastery being a strong stat, and avoidance being extremely effective in surviving dungeons and raids even after the slight nerfs were recently implemented.
Tier 3:
These traits unlock at 69,72,75 traits in your Disc weapon. These mimic your "Bronze" traits, though they cannot roll the trait you already have on that relic. For these ones you should follow the same ordering as your standard relics. Be sure to observe when you acquire new relics, what the last tier traits are available. A very unattractive relic at face value could turn out to be much better than expected due to the T3 traits that are offered.

Relic Priority
Relics are exceptionally powerful augments to your Disc Priest Artifact weapon that both increase your weapon's item level but also amplify the effects of one of your 3/3 artifact traits. You can get these from both Dungeons and Raids of any difficulty so Item level will often be your priority, but in close cases the following will be your priority system based on which traits give you the best effect.
