Northrend:
If you are starting off in Dalaran, take care of Underbelly Rat in the sewers before you leave town. Then, I suggest the following path.
Fly into Howling Fjord and get
Devouring Maggot- Howling Fjord, Utgarde Catacombs
Fjord Rat- Howling Fjord
Roach- Howling Fjord
Spider- Howling Fjord , Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom, Azjol-Nerub, Drak'Tharon Keep, Naxxramas, The Culling of Stratholme, etc.
While you are in the Howling Fjord, go /love these guys For the To All The Squirrels Who Shared My Life achievement.
Fjord Turkey - Howling Fjord
Fjord Penguin - Howling Fjord coasts
Scalawag Frog - Howling Fjord, Scalawag Point

Then , on your way to Zul'Drak to:
kill Zul'Drak Rat,
and love Arctic Hare
EDIT: Reports of Snake in GunDrak
stop by Grizzly Hills and /love:
Mountain Skunk - Grizzly Hills
Grizzly Squirrel - Grizzly Hills
EDIT: Several reports of a pack of deer and Mice in this zone near Venture Bay, I have not confirmed this though.

Continue north to Storm Peaks and kill
Gold Beetle- Halls of Stone, Halls of Lightning *no fighting necessary- see comment at bottom*

Now head west into Icecrown to /love
Glacier Penguin

Now head Southwest to Sholozar Basin and show some love to
Sholozar Tickbird, there is a flock right in the Nesingwary camp.

Now, continue south to Borean Tundra and love
Borean Marmot - Borean Tundra
Tundra Penguin - Borean Tundra coast
before heading into the Nexus to kill
Crystal Spider- The Nexus, Oculus *no fighting necessary- see comment at bottom*

If you are running Naxx anyway, these pests can be handled during your run, otherwise alternate locations are listed.
Larva- Naxxramas, Ghostlands
Maggot- Naxxramas, Ghostlands
Rat- Naxxramas, The Culling of Stratholme, Terokkar Forest

Now it is time to head to Outland:

Outland
In Zangermarsh, kill
Snake- Zangarmarsh EDIT: My understanding is that this critter can be found in Westfall. You have to go there anyway for the Mouse, so you might cut this zone out of your path. EDIT #2: Reports if this critter also in GunDrak- might be worth checking out when you are up that way.

Fly into Hellfire Peninsula and snuff
Adder- Hellfire Peninsula
Scorpion- Hellfire Peninsula

Old World
Use the Portal to get to the old world because that will put you close to:

Moccasin- Swamp of Sorrows
While you are in the swamp anyway, /love Huge Toad

Then, head into the Searing Gorge to:
kill Fire Beetle- Searing Gorge\
and love Lava Crab

Finally, go to Westfall for this pest.
Mouse- Westfall

If I have left anything out, please let me know and I will change it.

Edited and sorted by area, which seems easier to me. There are a total of 4 in Naxx if you are running it anyway. However, all of these can be found in other places. The other 2 that are found in dungeouns should be close to the front door, so you should not have to fight any elites.

Just wanted to say that mice can also be found in Grizzly Hills following herds of deer and fawn north of Venture Bay. I guess they were running from fire or something.

Also, if you're in the are of Sethekk Halls, I found snakes, adders, roaches, spiders, and rats.

There's a pack of mice and deer that run around in Grizzly Hills, near Venture Bay. One solid AoE in the pack of them will take care of your "kill a mouse" problem, and save you a rather long trip to Westfall.

The Dark Jade Focusing Lens, Shadow Crystal Focusing Lens and Shadow Jade Focusing Lens are very useful when trying to complete this achievement.

Simply target the soon to be killed critter (via macros or manually) then use the Lens and it'll show you exactly where that critter is that you need to kill. Helpful if you target them while flying around and aren't sure which direction they're in (and 40 charges in one Lens).

With the instance issues at the moment some of the creatures on the list can be a serious pain to get.

What I normally did was offer to portal jump and if I got in I would invite someone from a team outside. No point making it painful for others waiting to actually do an instance.

For those using NPCScan, here is a saved variables file that covers the IDs of all critters needed for the two Squirrel achievements and Pest Control.

Put this in your per-character directory (i.e. WTF/Account/$ACCOUNT/$REALM/$CHAR/SavedVariables/_NPCScan.lua)

(any part of the above path prefixed with a $ needs to be replaced by your details)

This has all the NPCs because I didn't want to provide chunks for each achievement for people to glue together. Just delete the lines you don't need if you're only doing one of the achievements or know that you've already found one of the NPCs on the list.

Maggots can also be found in the satyr area near Forest Song in Ashenvale. Easy for Horde and Alliance to reach.

One thing that helped me, along with using the /tar command, is to set focus and then set a raid icon. Some of the smaller mobs are really hard to see.

MOUSE can be found in Theramore and Wetlands (Menethril Harbour). Looked forever in Westfall and nothing.

The last two critters I needed for this achievement were hard to find. Hopefully this post will save time for you.

1. The scorpion that can be found in Hellfire Peninsula is labeled "scorpid". So make sure you use scorpid in your target macro, not scorpion.

2. There actually is a critter called a "water snake". I found one in Northern Stranglethorn on the southeast edge of Zul'Gurrub.

For those of you that have the updated achivement that requires "Water Snake", go to Northern Stranglethorn. Travel to inside the walls of Zul'Gurub and roughly around the south to southeast of the lake in Zul'Gurub you will find an area with a bunch of snakes. "Water Snake" can be found here.

I hope this helps and keeps you from looking for awhile like me.

You may care to download my Rare Love add-on over at WoW Interface or Curse.

It is simply one macro for all your Squirrel "love", pest and rare achievements through to the end of MoP.

You'll spam press a macro button created by Rare Love but when the add-on itself kicks in there is a whole lot more, including progress tallies after each kill/love.

Most importantly, it runs lean and clean. Little cpu/fps impact and a tiny memory footprint.

Currently this achievement is a little broken. For both me & a guildie, when we killed the last pest that the game said was needed, the achievement did not proc. It showed all requirements as being fulfilled but the achievement still was not earned. Turns out there were several that we hadn't killed but that the achievement menu was displaying as completed. For me it was Crystal Spider & Water Snake, for him it was several more. He was able to find this out by looking on the Armory. When I went and killed another each of those 2 critters, the achievement popped.

I recommend everyone keep a written list and manually check off each critter as they kill it so that you'll know for sure which ones are left that you need to kill, since you might not be able to rely on the game to tell you.

Orios has an excellent guide on here, but it's over 10 years old and there's been some changes made to this achievement, so here's an updated guide to completing this achievement that I hope is helpful. Some critters can be found in multiple locations, so I've noted that, but included them with other nearby critters for ease of completing this achievement. It's also helpful to turn on "Track Pets" on your minimap.
