Tbh i think its impossible to do this achievement unless if you maxed your mining during legion.
i farmed every R2-R3 with some try hard for each rank and most of them took me an average of 2 hours.
I'm facing a wall right now for Mining Technique: Felslate Seam + Mining Technique: Felslate Deposit, they just don’t appear.
I farmed 2 weeks about 3/4 hours per day and no npc spawnned when mining felslate.
So there are 2 possibilities; the drop rate is completely &*!ed and im really really really unlucky or quests are bugged and do not drop anymore.

I reached a gm but as always there is no bug from their side and if i think there is a bug i should make a bug report :)

I decided to stop this boring and useless farm untill the launch of 10.1.7 and see if some people are like me and can't drop these 2 quests.
If you are like me, just target this achievement on the ptr and report bug or make a feedback about R3 from legion.

Anyway i can give some tips about mining in legion :

- If you start from scratch use an Highmountain Tauren.
- Buy Enchant Gloves - Legion Mining + Darkmoon Firewater.
- Grab every R1 first and after farm R2 then R3.
- Unlock Argus and grab R1 Empyrium Deposit + Empyrium Seam / Since you can't fly Krokuun is the best area.
- Since mining can't use a mount like herbalism, i suggest to do this achievement during Hallow's End and use Magic Broom.
- Check wow profession they got some nice routes.
- Broken Shore is the best area for farm Felstate Seam and Leystone Seam.
- Do not focus Living Felslate unless its your last R3 missing and go to Felsoul Hold.
- Same for Living Leystone this spot Lagoon Basilisk got a good respawn but from wowheads comment people dropped their R3 at Hafr Fjall and tbh i farmed here with 3 accounts and the respawn is too bad for a single account, try in azsuna if you got a single account maybe there is a better spot but you need to check by yourself.
- Do not expect Ranks 2+3 to drop easily, you can be lucky and drop one after 2 or 3 tries, be patient because it is probably one of the worst achievement from the 10.1.7 :)

Really low drop rate on these ones but they sure drop, my most pain was empyrium seam running around on that island :)

Something I was wondering and can now happily confirm:
- You don't need to be max level for these to drop
- You don't need the others types in the same categories to be the same level

After mining the basilisks in Felsoul Hold for a couple hours I finally got Ondri to appear to get Living Felslate R3. My Legion mining skill was 82 at the time, and my Felslate Seam was R2 while my Felslate Deposit was R1. Go nuts if you feel like farming a particular type.

I just got this achiev and will share my results going from rank 0-3 on all.

Leystone ore: 4977
Felslate ore: 2190, I had completed rank 3 on felslate and felslate seams at 1640 but had to clear more to make space for leystone seams.
Empyrium ore: 1465. At 1004 ores i was stuck on being at only rank 1 on ores and 2 on seams and started to get really worried, but it turned around rather quickly.
Legion mining skill when finished (probably doesnt matter) 98

For Living leystone rank 0-2 i recommend the basilisks with 0 downtime in Azsuna around 56/35. The reason im not recommending rank 3 for for this place is because firstly i couldnt even find a single comment from someone here that got rank 3 from them and me myself killed a few thousands there with no result. So instead i went to stormheim 55/93 as recommended plenty of times and got rank 3 from the basilisks there. there is only around 12 of them there and they respawn after 4-5 min but it does look to be the best place.

For Living felstone rank 0-3, the basilisks at Northern Felsoul hold, Suramar 29/63. You can combine this after clearing your route going in to caves and water areas in Suramar for both seams i usually killed some 30 to give proper time for respawn of seams then went out again.

Should you get Leystone seams rank 3 before felstone seam i recommend going to broken shore as it has much more felstone seams then other lands. Good luck!

I needed to complete the Argus questline until Khamir spawns after Xera is "recovered" after that I had both the Empyrium deposit chunk and seam chunk drop shortly after for rank 1.

The fact that blizzard added this achievement without looking into the drop rates of the rank 2/3 recipes is beyond me and deserves all the negative critic it gets. I farmed for HOURS/DAYS now with not even a single progress. It goes so far that it makes you wonder if your character is just bugged. Nothing should have such a low drop rate.

And this is not the first time blizzard simply fails to design fun and engaging achievements. They fail over and over again.

It is getting so frustrating to me that i am thinking about taking a break from the game/quit. I am simply so overly done with stupid achievements like this one only for them to maybe be fixed 9 months later after you already wasted hours over it.

Nothing about this whole achievement is fun. It should not exist. And the persons who are responsible for designing it deserve every bit of negative feedback. And i am willing to die on this hill.

If you ever were looking for a picture book example of "devs not playing theyre own game". This achievement takes the cake.

Please don't be like me and farm 6k+ ley and 4k+ fel until you realize, that for the felslate quests to drop you need to complete a questchain. See e5ordie'S comment here Lyrelle's Right Arm#comments

Edit: I kid you not, the first seam after completing the last prequest and the arm was inside - tried to submit a screenshot as proof.

Edit 2: Finally done, just to let you know what might await you: 14.222 Leystone ore, 8.855 Felslate ore and 511 Empyrium ore. I guess you cant count 6k Leystone and 4k Felslate, as I was missing the last quest in the felslate quest chain. Also I never had to famr living ley or fel, as I farmed so many nodes that I got them from basilisks that spawn random. Empyrium was exceptionally fast though in the end. Well, I guess it is just rng after all.

In order to be ELIGIBLE to loot rank 2 and 3 of Felslate and Leystone techniques you need to complete 2 chains of 3 quests:
(FELSLATE -> The Felsmiths -> A Shred of Your Humanity -> Darkheart Thicket: Nal'ryssa's Sisters)
(LEYSTONE -> The Highmountain Tauren -> Where Respect is Due -> The Legend of Rethu Ironhorn)
You can start those quests in Dalaran from Mama Diggs AFTER you find all 6 rank 1 techniques (Leystone Deposit, Leystone Seam, Living Leystone --- Felslate Deposit, Felslate Seam, Living Felslate)

Don't get discouraged by all the other negative comments. This achievement is not bugged. It will take several days of grinding, but it is very doable and you will see steady progress. Here's a summary of the most useful tips from other posts and my own experience:

Leystone and Felslate Deposits/Seams: these ranks are obtained by mining nodes in non-Argus Legion zones. The best zone seems to be The Broken Shore. You'll earn rank 1 quickly. After rank 1, complete the mining quest chains from the Dalaran mining trainer before proceeding to ranks 2-3, which are much more rare.
Infernal Brimstone: earn rank 1 by completing a world quest (for me, it was in Highmountain). Earn ranks 2-3 by completing a quest chain, which is available from the Dalaran mining trainer only after earning Rank 2 in leystone deposits/seams and felslate deposits/seams.
Living Leystone and Living Felslate: I recommend waiting until earning all level 3 ranks in leystone deposits/seams and felslate deposits/seams before working on living leystone and living felslate. The reason is because mining any leystone or felslate node has a chance to spawn a basilisk. Mining the basilisk's corpse has a chance to earn the respective living leystone or living felslate ranks. If you still need living leystone/felslate ranks, the best places to farm are: for living leystone ranks 1-2, the basilisks at /way Azsuna 55 34; for living leystone rank 3, the basilisks at /way Stormheim 56 91--be sure to get nodes and basilisks in the 3 caves; for living felslate ranks 1-3, the basilisks at Felsoul Hold (/way Suramar 28 59).
Empyrium Deposits/Seams: ranks are obtained only by mining nodes in Argus zones. Because there's no flying in Argus, the best zone is Eredath. Rank 1 will become available only after progressing the main Argus storyline quests until Khamir spawns after Xera is recovered. Because of no flying in Argus, empyrium ranks are the most challenging of the entire achievement.

Additonal helpful tips:

Highmountain Taurens have a racial mining bonus. If possible, use a character with this race.
Create (or buy from AH) Enchant Gloves - Legion Mining.
Create (or buy from AH) Demonsteel Stirrups.
Max mining skill level is not required for any rank. You may actually earn the achievement before reaching max skill level.
With the exception of living leystone and living felslate, all ranks are obtained by either looting an item or spawning an NPC while mining nodes. Either way, it will initiate a quest that you turn in to a mining trainer in Suramar, Highmountain or the Argus ship.

I am unable to verify this however Crystalline Phial of Perception (Perception Boost) appears to have a substantial boost on Quest Items. I have noticed that when I have one on I seem to get a Rank 2/3 of Herb/Mining every 30-Minutes. When I do not I will go for hours upon end with none. I finished up Herbalism today, and have 3 Mining remaining. I have been at it for about four days. I went and added Perception to Mining and Herbalism Tools and noticed my speed increased further. I recommend anyone frustrated to try and let's gather data.

Finally got this brutal achievement done today.

Finished with 17k leystone ore and 13k felslate ore.

I had everything at 4k leystone ore and 2.5k felslate ore EXCEPT for Felslate Seam.

It took an additional 13k leystone ore and 10.5k felslate ore before Lyrelle finally spawned.

Blizzard really needs to try playing its own game.

I farmed Living leystone rank 3 for hours in Azsuna and had no luck. Then I went to Stormheim 56,91 and rank 3 dropped for me within minutes. Not sure if its luck but it seems a few other people have had the same fortune as me.

This NEEDS to be buffed. Been farming this for months, making this achievement a true nightmare, nearly same as Draenor Curator.

At this point there's no fun at all, just a lazy achieve made just for one purpose: Spend hours and hours of gameplay forcing you to play obsolete content with not fun at all.

I am wondering if I am doing something wrong. I completed the highmountain quests but stuck getting Leystone Seam R2. I have over 80 hours (demonsteel uses) (actually check that I have used 80 demonsteel so that is 160 farming) and have collected over 30k leystone. I am just flying around the Broken Shores which has many seams available.

If you ever had switched from mining to different proff, make sure to buy this book Forgotten Techniques of the Broken Isles it will teach you all the ranks you gained before swapping, I mined for around 20 hours without getting any rank up so I went to check dalaran NPCs if they have any quest for me, they didnt, but I found this book on vendor, bought and used it and I got pretty much everything to rank 3.

I gave up on this achiev till they fix it.
Please someone let me know when they do.
It is insane, I almost got all herbs rank 3 while collecting all in broken shore, just missing aethril.
In the mean time, I only got rank 3 felslate seam and nothing else.
It's absurd the % for something like this.

Ensure you have completed the quest Darkheart Thicket: Nal'ryssa's Sisters and other quests from this quest line! You may have abandoned it during Legion or previous expansions (i did). Without completing it, you cannot loot some ranks.

So today was a mining quest in Suramar, where you have to mine 10 "special" felslate nodes, is it possible to spawn the quest NPC there?
The nodes are very close to each other and it should be possible to mine them while in a raid, so you don't get the credit.

I can't recall the name of the world quest, i completed it and thought about it later when i flew my loops around broken shore.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WORKS!
i don't know if you can spawn the NPC with the special nodes
i don't know if the nodes are respawn fast enough to be valid

Maybe there is someone out, who is already desperate enough to try such a shallow theory.

I am done with this %^&* finally and I'm pretty sure RANK 3 drops for this achievement are on a weekly cooldown, you can get only one of them per week. I can not prove this yet, but my experience is getting them after 20 min farming every wednesday, but nothing for hours after that. Spare yourself some agony if you get a rank3 quest from a node or a seam and continue next week.

Holy smokes. I read the comments before I started (from scratch) so I knew this was going to be rough. Let's be honest though, some part of us always thinks "maybe I'll be the exception, surely it won't be that bad." It was indeed that bad. By hour 10, I was not having a good time. By hour 20, I was fully in sunk cost fallacy territory (little did I know). By hour 30, I was entirely questioning my sanity. By hour 40, I was begging, pleading...please let this be over. "Surely the end is near" I told myself. Finally, around hour 55, I completed this god-forsaken achievement.

Good luck to others who are crazy enough to embark upon this journey. This is horrible game design and I hope for the sake of others the droprate is buffed in the future.

As a dedicated achievement @#$%^ with 45k achievement points, let me tell you something:

I see others posting that the Stormheim basilisks somehow magically gets you Living Leystone rank 3. I seriously doubt that is the case. I've been clearing them out for months and months now, whenever I'm not raiding og pvp'ing. And guess what? NOTHING!

yes, I've done all the prereqs and my miner is eligible for the rank.

It's really just a horribly designed achievement. Let's all just pray the proc will somehow get buffed. I can only urge everyone to ticket and cry about it :)

So many people moaning about this achievement but not one comment that has a concise and clear method of how to actually do it without filtering through 200 comments most of them QQing and piecing it all together. Pretty annoying.
