Repeatable reputation quest, grants 250 rep with the Consortium at level 70.

In my opinion, if your goal is to simply grind Consortium rep, farming Zaxxis Insignias is still much more effective. Times may vary for different people, but it took me a long time of pretty steady killing to get 1 key for an ID tag.

I have killed a good 80 Ethereum mobs (Day of patch) and first part of the quest I got the key off the 2nd mob. I have yet to get one since.
I came back about 10 mins later and did finally get a key. Drop rate is pretty low.

This seems to be a quest thats meant to be done as you do all the other quests in this area as the drop rate is, for me, significantly smaller than the last quest.
If you are just starting out in this area, make an effort to turn the salvaged key in right away so you can grab this quest and soften the blow of this grind.

Upon finding a Key (off of around the 5th or 6th mob I killed), I unlocked a cage to get the Forgosh, The Duke of Fiends. He's a level 71 mob and is the same npc type as the flesheaters, but I was unable to nova him in place. Low HP, so easily droppable.

Just to see, I did this quest again, got the key on the 10th mob or so, and got Porfus the Gem Gorger, a giant basilisk model. Same level 71, and just like the Fiend model, he wasn't kitable via frost spells, but had low enough HP to burn down easily.

In both cases, the mob I freed dropped a green as well as the ID tag.

Uncertain if it's random which mob you get upon opening a cage, I tried the one closest to the entrance on the ones nearest to Ameer, and after that, tried the one behind it to the left.

According to my mod, the drop rate seems to be around 4-6% I got 5 keys in about 1.5 hours of farming, most of the time competing over mobs with other people.

I didn't have much trouble farming these things.
it's not too bad, plus you get greens off every mob you kill after you free them.

not too bad in my opinion.
i've gotten maybe 6 keys in an hour of farming, all the mobs i released dropped a nametag and a green.

some may think its a waste of time, but i'm not one of those.

I can confirm that the keys can definitely drop off any of the Ethernuim mobs. I flew around a bit looking for a Jailor and found none -- I then farmed up 5 keys in under 30 minutes just killing the random mobs. So far, two blues and 3 greens.

Yeah, a rather frustrating quest. Killed about 75 Ethereums so far, mostly Nullifiers and Avengers - no jailor, and no key.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. This is easy peasy.

The keys drop off the various mobs around the camp, and then you open the ethereum prisons (the big purpley ball things, there are a bunch at 54,40) and a big scary pops out. Kill him and he drops the ID tags.

After 20 minutes of grinding for the tag, it dropped and went looking for it, and found it in my keyring. For whatever reason I dragged and dropped it in my bag. I went to look for it in my bag and it was no where to be found!

The Zaxxis mobs south of Area 52 are a good place to farm for this while farming for the Zaxxis Insignia and Netherweave, if you're not bothered about a slightly lower drop rate but getting more farmable stuff overall, I would definatley suggest these mobs.

Just confirming icedoom the jailor does spawn at 56.48 killed it with some friends twice in a row to get the drop after that e didnt spawn again...very weird...but if your lucky to find him the drop is 100%
from the other mobs the drop is insanely low i got one but was lucky.

This is definitely a nice way to farm Consortium rep: just kill Zaxxis guys for keys and insigs. Use the keys to open the prisons for 250 rep a pop (or whatever else that comes out.

Considering that at exalted you can get the key that allows you to summon the mana-tomb boss without consuming it, it's probably a good idea to stick to this part of the rep grind until you're close to exalted.

Also, looking at the loot lists of the mobs you free, a lot of them have a chance at dropping shadow resist gear, which is critical for heroic mana-tomb...

Lastly, the random mobs that gives you Shatar/LC/Conosrtium/etc rep gives rep to everyone in your party. It's nice to do the unlocking cage part of the quest not just by yourself (especially with all those potential BOP blue loot that drops).

I found a key while running TK -Arc(heroic).. and it seems that they have a high drop rate? I got a key in every run so far..

I agree with the suggestion to kill Zaxis guys while you are farming for keys. I spent 30 minutes killing mobs around Manaforge Ultris and got nothing except a couple of BOP greens, no keys.

I then went and spent 40 minutes farming Zaxis mobs, got 40 badges and 2 keys so that's 1500 rep for 40 minutes work vs zero rep for 30 minutes work.

Basically, you can farm the Zaxis and average 10 badges per 10 min, so that would be 60 per hour worth 1500 rep. Plus, you might get keys to drop as a bonus. Finally, no basilisks to deal with.

It is a 100% drop rate, kill the jailor who drops the prion key (100% on this too). Open the Prison, kill the mob that spawns and u have ur key. The jailor pats in a half moon shape around the eastern/south side of the island. happy hunting

i have yet to see a Jailor in all the times i looked for him, i just gave up and started killing Avenger's and Nullifiers, they seem to have a higher drop rate than the ones inside the camp, they are all around the isle, got my first key on the 10th Nullifier

I have been working on this quest for two days now. I have gotten the key twice. I have opened two prisons. The first prison I opened the freed a sprorregard. The second time freed a keeper of time. Neither time have I gotten an I.D. tag. Does anyone have any advice?

If you are grinding Consortium rep, just grind Zaxxis Insignias at the Heap, and then open a prison with every key that one of those ethereals drops.

I would like to group alot of relevant information about this Quest.

The keys drop from most if not all the ethereum mobs around Manaforge Ultris and from the Zaxxis mobs near Manaforge B'naar. The drop rate is low but if you circle the Manaforge killing these and come across a Jailor then the drop rate is 100% from him. The jailors it would seem are on the same respawn as the other mobs so keep killing, I have had 3 jailors spawn immediately one after the other by killing the other mobs but can fly around looking for hours without a jailor if I havn't been killing the other mobs. Simply pick an area and farm it, the time it takes you to kill mobs and respawn time, will soon dictate the size of the area to farm.
When you open a prison orb you have the chance of freeing a friendly or a hostile mob. The friendly mob will grant you relevant rep, so far I have had rep granted for (as a human) The Consortium, Cenarian Expedition, Sha'tar, Lower City and Keepers Of Time all 550 and Sporegarr 450 (or something but it was less than the others). You will not get a prison I.D. Tag with these friendly mobs. If you free a hostile mob you will have to fight it. They are lvl 70 or 71 but seem to be easy to kill, you will get a lvl 70 Blue/Green and an I.D. Tag which you hand in to Commander Ameer and get 275 rep with The Consortium, or 250 as non human.
Once you reach Consortium Revered you will be offered the quest A Thousand Worlds from Ameer.

Simply killed Ethereum Nexus- Stalker at entrance to area with the prisons (pink bubbles). A prison key dropped I opened the middle prison and out came Porfus the Gem Gorger. I killed him and he dropped a tag.

I Found and saw Ethereum Jailor lvl 71, 3 times around 57,47 !!
Kill Him - Get the key, go to one of the Ethereum Prison's open it and kill the lvl 71 mob - and loot the Ethereum Prisoner I.D. Tag

Its pretty easy, but Ethereum Jailor and the mob from the prison is pretty hard to kill, so your need good dps or another char. to help you.
Unless your good at killing mobs without getting killed.

note that there is a missing bind on pickup, which, if you got extra gold, especially with the new SSO dailies faction or from netherwing ogrila or skettis you can get these keys for consortium rep the same time as getting netherwing/SSO/etc. rep from dalies. 25g apeice which would give ya round 4-6 keys just from SSO dailies. You can also get it from grinding etherium mobs, doing the regular daily, or mana-tombs

I spent two hours on two seperate occasions trying to get this key to drop with my husband. On the second day after two hours he finally got one but I continued to get nada. On each occasion we looked and looked for the jailer (I'm a hunter so it should have been easy to spot) but never found one. So on someones suggestion we moved to The Heap near area 52 (approximate coords are 30,75) and tried killing the Zaxxis instead. It dropped after about ten kills and I also got several insignia (which can be turned in for rep) in the process. Save yourself a headache and farm the key at the heap.

I'm fairly convinced there is no such thing as an Ethereum jailor. Either that, or this must be the rarest spawns in the game.

Definetely NOT worth doing, unless you're after Netherstorm questing achievement. First - as already mentioned - the drop rate for the keys is really low. Second, it took me FIVE keys to even get a hostile thing out of the prison. I rescued half of the Cenarion Expedition before a fiend decided to come out and end my agony. Avoid this quest if you would be doing it for the exp.

I have found my Ethereum Prison Key from Ethereum Avenger at 66, 48 - (1st mob I killed.)
But..
When I opened the prison (one of huge bulb) I released Sporregar mob - which gave me Sporregar reputation and I had to find another Ethereum Prison Key...

I found Ethereum Jailor at location 55.4, 49.0 and at the same location I killed Ethereum Nullifier. Both drop Prison Key.

One key released Time-Keeper and gave me 550
Second key released Armbreaker Huffax lvl 7, kill and drop the ID.

To help clear up some of the apparent confusion on how to get these keys and what to do with them once you have them (assuming you're farming Consortium rep).
There are a couple of ways to get Ethereum Prison Key.

1. Camp out in the prescribed area in the quest and kill mobs until it drops. This option is a grind.
Wowhead lists the Ethereum Jailor as having a 95% drop rate for the item, but he's a reasonably rare spawn, so you could be waiting a long time before you find him.
The next best drop rate is about 7% off other mobs in the quest zone.
Either way it's painful unless you get lucky.

2. Run Heroic Mana-Tombs. One run should give you approximately 4 to 6 Ethereum Prison Key. Since you will be getting rep anyway, killing mobs in the instance - this seems a preferable option if you're farming rep with the Consortium.

Next, fly to the quest area and find the Ethereum Staging Grounds. Location 54.6 / 46.5 should put you in the right spot. Use the key(s) to open one of the pink bubble Ethereum prisons.
The mob that comes out of the prison will drop a Ethereum Prisoner I.D. Tag with about a 98% drop rate.

Complete quest.
Once you hand in the quest it will turn into a repeatable quest Ethereum Prisoner I.D. Catalogue, which will give you approx 300 rep per turn in and also unlock the quest A Thousand Worlds.

For the life of me, I had no idea what I was supposed to be opening once I got the key, which dropped for me after the second mob I killed (I just picked mobs at random and looked for no one special). So, let me help anyone else who is confused since most of what is here is about how to get the key rather than telling you what to unlock:

Once you get the key, head to the "jails," which are the pink, glowing floaty ball things corralled in a fenced-off area near the edge of one of the cliffs.

This quest was one of the worst I have ever done. I spent at least 2 hrs killing everything in sight at the Ethereum Staging Grounds along with others while I flew around trying to find the Ethereum Jailor. Never found the jailor and then I finally got 2 keys back at the grounds. Use them and the first one was a monster and the 2nd was a girl. Neither dropped the id tag. Sigh, back again killings tons more mobs for a key. Finally got one but tried to find another just in case. Gave up, used my one key, got a monster, but thank god I finally got the id tag. The least Blizzard could do is give a good reward. 4 G just doesn't do it.

What a stupid quest. I found a jailor at 68.4,46, which is almost 700 yards from where the prisons are. Why are these mobs not with the other Ethereum mobs? Makes no sense to me. Oh well...

From just my experience with this quest, DO NOT bother looking for a jailer for too long, it is NOT worth it... I came here looking for answers and although it prob would be a good idea to kill a bunch of Ethereum and wait for the jailer to spawn, you don't know how long you will have to wait. After trying this out for about 30 mins, I decided to try the other option of killing Zaxxis. THIS WORKED GREAT! I went through a whole section real quick then went afk for 5 mins came back they all were spawned again. I killed about 5-10 more and I got the KEY! Prob about 20 mins total (being a 90). Thanks everyone for all the good ideas, but this one worked best for me!

Tried to get the key in the first area where it shows that it is available to drop. Unfortunately I was having a hard time, so i started looking for the ethereum jailor (using the macro /tar ethereum jailor while flying.)
I found him at 66,49 on the voidwind plateau.
Thank god the first prison i opened was Armbreaker huffaz that dropped the ID card.
If you end up unlucky in the first attempts with all the archons, avengers and assassins, I recommend you fly past the first area, and use a macro to find the jailor.

Took me about 25 minutes of farming ethereals to get the first key, i never could find the warden for the guaranteed key drop.

If you are just leveling, i don't think this quest is worth the time you need to farm the ethereals for a key drop.

Here is my experience summarized on how to get this item. I just did it on one of my characters to prepare for Timewalking in patch 6.2.

Before you start you might consider purchasing the required materials that will be required further into the quests. It can help reduce farm and speed up completion. At some point you'd need to turn in 10xEthereum Prison Key, but in addition you'd need one extra to continue the quest chain. So if I were you, buy at least 10 of these from the Auction House. Though this is not required, just saves you perhaps an hour of farm in total (if unlucky like me.)

Anyway start by doing these quests in the following order:
1. Seek Out Ameer (requires Honored)
2. A Mission of Mercy
3. Ethereum Secrets (repeatable, do once)
4. A Thousand Worlds (requires Revered)
5. Stasis Chambers of Bash'ir
6. Purging the Chambers of Bash'ir (repeatable, do once)
7. The Mark of the Nexus-King
8. Stasis Chambers of the Mana-Tombs
9. Nexus-Prince Shaffar's Personal Chamber (repeatable, do once)
10. The Eye of Haramad (requires Exalted)

One tip to greatly increase the speed of the farm is to actually enter Heroic Mana-Tombs because you can farm the last boss indefinitely. He will first spawn Ethereal Beacon and these mobs will spawn Ethereal Apprentice and these give 10 rep in Normal, and 21 rep in Heroic. If you have 4 hours to kill spamming one macro, basically create this:

/targetexact Ethereal Apprentice
/use ABILITYTHATCANBESPAMMEDTOKILLSTUFF
/stopattack
/tar player
/use Battle Standard of Coordination
I've included the Battle Standard of Coordination to speed up the process. Also helps you not forget to spawn it once it is off cooldown and the old one despawns.

Once Exalted you can go to Image of Commander Ameer and complete the final quest The Eye of Haramad (only requires Exalted, nothing else) for The Eye of Haramad and you can spawn Yor each time you visit the instance - no need to farm keys for one time use consumables.

• Accept the quest, Ethereum Secrets, from Commander Ameer at coords 59.4, 32.2 (Protectorate Watch Post).
• Travel southwest, into the Ethereum Staging Grounds and kill Ethereum mobs there.
• Loot their corpses, until you receive an Ethereum Prison Key.
• Travel either to coords 54, 40 or 54, 46.
• Click on the Ethereum Prison, which will appear as a pinkish orb.
• Kill the mob that comes out of the Ethereum Prison, and loot the Ethereum Prisoner I.D. Tag from its corpse.
• Travel northeast, back to the Protectorate Watch Post, to coords 59.4, 32.2.
• Turn in the quest to Commander Ameer.

In the first stage of this quest, the key dropped from the sixth Etherium mob, I opened one of the jail bubbles and got a friendly (unattackable) mob who thanked me for freeing him and disappeared. How nice. After that, I killed about 60 more without one key dropping. Log/log didn't make any difference.

What did make a difference was dropping the quest and accepting it again. After that, a key dropped from the fifth mob and this time I had no problems. Just FYI.

The Ethereum Nullifiers have the highest drop rate for the Ethereum prison key, which is required to open the prison bubbles. they spawn around the outskirts of Manaforge Ultris, and are easy to grind by just walking the edge of the island.

You will use this key to open a prison at 54 , 40 and voila.

Posting an update after leveling changes of 7.3.5

The key dropped for me from mobs outside of the highlighted area on the map (highlighted because that area is where you complete the quest). I got mine off of one of the Nullifiers. I did not see the comments about Etherium Jailors, so I cannot comment on whether they are still in the game or whether they drop the key at a higher rate. Took me about seven minutes and ten mobs to get the key.
I do not know if I was lucky or if the drop rate has changed, but the first prison I opened had a mob that dropped the tag as soon as I killed it, so it can happen.

Side Note (since I never what affects quests): I had completed all the other quests in that area before picking this one up.

Note: You are not looking directly for the ID Tags, but instead looking for Ethereum Prison Key - which allows you to release a prisoner. I found that Ethereum Jailor's are the best to drop the keys, with a high drop chance of 92%. They are outside of the blue questing area. Use macro /Target Ethereum Jailor and you can find one within seconds.

I have been trying both farming and finding the Ethereal Jailor, both were a fail for me. Then I remembered that in a former quest, I had to kill the Warden Icoshock to get a key which was needed to free Captain Tyralius Captain Tyralius

So I looked for Icoshock, who was still there, respawns after 3 min when killed, and indeed, he dropped me a key. Then open a prison and tadaaa that is it.

Drop rate on "normal" mobs on this quest is utterly abysmal. I kept killing them as 120 for 10 mins not to get a single drop, only reason I got it cause I managed to find the "jailer" mob. Just take the time to go to mana tombs ppl say drops several/run.

Hey, guys, so my experience with this quest: I've killed around 10 mobs, including Captain Zorax, but I got the key from an Ethereum Avenger. Then went to a random prison, more specifically the one at /way 54.59 46.47 and got the I.D. from the mob inside it...maybe I was lucky...

Commander Ameer at the Protectorate Watch Post in Netherstorm wants you to bring him an Ethereum Prisoner I.D. Tag.

I found this prisoner I.D. tag with the remains of the fallen vanguard. I can only assume that all of their prisoners are tagged in the same manner.
