Altruis explains in this quest that Illidan once authorized 5 blood elves to undertake training by his fellow demon hunters. Of the five students, 3 have died, one has gone mad (possibly Leotheras the Blind - http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=21215#z0z - it explains why he was imprisioned in SSC) and one has succesefully passed all the trial, namely Varedis (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=21178).

lol, i noticed that the story he tells sounds an awful lot like the story "the wizard of earthsea" where A boy named ged memorizes all the "real names" of the elements and such, therefor being able to control him, this was a series, very entertaining to see it refrenced

This is part of the Book of Fel Names chain. As well as reputation with your chosen faction (Aldor/Scyer), if you complete it you can choose from:
Ceremonial Kris (+heal dagger)
Slayer's Axe (2H +str axe)
Sunfury Legguards (+AP mail pants)
Hauberk of Karabor (+AP leather chest)
Summoner's Blade (+dmg sword)
Wildcaller (feral staff)

As with the Medallion of Karabor line, this chain starts different depending on whether you're Aldor (A) or Scryer (S). All the quests are rated level 70 - though the chain is available at level 68, it sends you to the Shadow Labyrinth to kill Blackheart, which you might want to hold off on until level 70.

Aldors pick it up from Exarch Onaala at the Altar of Sha'tar:
1. (A) Karabor Training Grounds
2. (A) A Necessary Distraction
3. (A) Altruis

Scryers need to visit Larissa Sunstrike at the Sanctum of the Stars:
1. (S) Karabor Training Grounds
2. (S) A Necessary Distraction
3. (S) Altruis

Here the chains converge on your old friend Altruis the Sufferer in Nagrand. He gives out three quests that need to be completed (in any order) before you can continue:
4a. Against the Legion - Netherstorm
4b. Against the Illidari - Shadowmoon Valley
4c. Against All Odds - Zangarmarsh
Having gone around the world killing stuff, you can now return to Altruis and receive:
5. Illidan's Pupil
which leads directly into
6. The Book of Fel Names

Now it's time for a venture into the Shadow Labyrinth to kill Blackheart! Once that's done that and his body has been looted for the book, it's back to Altruis where again the chains diverge depending on your allegiance.

Aldor:
7. (A) Return to the Aldor - back to Altar of Sha'tar
8. (A) Varedis Must Be Stopped

Scryer:
7. (S) Return to the Scryers - back to Sanctum of Stars
8. (S) Varedis Must Be Stopped

Varedis Must Be Stopped is the final part. It's a 5-man group quest that sends you to the terrace outside the Black Temple to kill four elites: Varedis, Netharel, Theras and Alandien. Look them up for co-ordinates and tips on killing them - they're pretty straightforward, really.

When they're dead it's a simple matter of returning to the questgiver to choose a prize.

Because one of the pre-req quests, Against the Legion, is currently bugged and impossible to complete (at least not as designed, and certainly not at the appropriate level), this quest cannot be completed.

Altruis's Story (Spoiler alert!)

Here is the tale Altruis tells of Illidan's Pupil.

Tell me about the demon hunter training grounds at the Ruins of Karabor.

As a reward for his years of service, Illidan allowed Kael'thas to send him five warriors to train under him. It would be the first time blood elves would be allowed to train as demon hunters.

The training was brutal. Illidan put Kael's warriors through trials that would defeat most fully capable demon hunters.

Three of Kael's elves died in training - another went mad.

One succeeded.

I'm listening.

Varedis was his name. To Illidan's surprise, not only did he succeed in the excruciating rites of passage that are part of the training; Varedis was already displaying better command over his powers than many veteran demon hunters.

Illidan sensed the potential in Varedis and assigned three master demon hunters to train him further in their ways.

Go on, please.

Within a year of training under Illidan's best three demon hunters, Varedis had surpassed them.

No longer content with the training they had to offer, Varedis infiltrated the Shadow Council where he learned of a powerful relic known as the Book of Fel Names. He secretly read from this book, committing each passage to memory.

Interesting.

Knowledge of a demon's true name is rumored to give a certain amount of power over that demon.

The Book of Fel names is said to contain the true name of every demon ever to have existed. By memorizing the passages in te book, Varedis had found a source of power to rival Illidan's own drinking from the Skull of Gul'dan.

At Illidan's request, Varedis now runs the training grounds at the Ruins of Karabor - along with the three masters that mentored Varedis.

That's quite a story.

It is not surprising that a blood elf's potential for power as a demon hunter is so high. After all, the sin'dorei do not have the natural aversion to demonic magic that night elves do.

However, I do not expect many to succeed. Most of them, Varedis included, pursue power for its own sake. That power will consume them, for they are not driven by the pure fire that burns inside a true demon hunter's heart.

How come I cant get this quest? I have done up to Forge Camp: Annihilated then it stopped giving me quest I am 5 quest away for that area could someone help me?

I had to get honored with the Aldor to be able to pick up the quest from Exarch Onaala, after that, you should be good.
