The process of attunement to the Black Temple begins in Shadowmoon Valley with a very long quest chain that requires trips to the Arcatraz, Serpentshrine Cavern, Mount Hyjal and finally the doorstep of the Black Temple itself. Even if you're not planning on raiding just yet, the chain does offer some nice blue rewards half way through. It starts differently depending on whether you're Aldor (A) or Scryer (S):

Aldors pick up the line from Anchorite Ceyla in the Altar of Sha'tar:
1. (A) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (A) Oronu the Elder
3. (A) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (A) The Warden's Cage

Scyers get it from Arcanist Thelis at the Sanctum of Stars:
1. (S) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (S) Oronu the Elder
3. (S) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (S) The Warden's Cage

At this point the chains converge for both factions:
5. Proof of Allegiance
6. Akama
7. Seer Udalo (Dungeon)

Here, you have to venture into the Arcatraz (which requires a Rogue with 350 lockpicking or somebody to open the door who's completed the Arcatraz Key chain, which requires trips to the Mechanar and the Botanica respectively) to the room just before the final boss. Sadly it's impossible to solo-stealth to. Finding Udalo leads to:

Talk to Akama:
8. A Mysterious Portent
Kill waves of nonelites, 3 elites and a boss (5-man) on a terrace outside the Black Temple:
9. The Ata'mal Terrace
Finally, deliver the medallion to A'dal in Shattrath City:
10. Akama's Promise

The chain ends here, and you're granted a choice of rewards:
Akama's Sash (cloth DPS belt)
Bloodwarder's Rifle (gun)
Spellbreaker's Buckler (spelldamage shield)
Ashtongue Blade (phsyical DPS dagger)
Verdant Gloves (feral leather gloves)
Staff of the Ashtongue Deathsworn (healing staff)
However, if you now go into Serpentshrine Cavern and kill Karathress, you'll be able to talk to Seer Olum who'll continue the quest chain for you:

1. The Secret Compromised
Go back to Warden's Cage in SMV and talk to Akama.
2. Ruse of the Ashtongue
Using the Ashtongue Cowl provided, kill Al'ar in Tempest Keep while disguised as a member of the Deathsworn.
3. An Artifact From the Past
You need to be attuned to Mount Hyjal for this. Simply kill Rage Winterchill and loot his phylactery (what is it with liches and their phylacteries?), then deliver it to Akama...
4. The Hostage Soul
...then return to Ad'al in Shattrath City...
5. Entry Into the Black Temple
...then go back to Shadowmoon and talk to Xi'ri on the road leading to the Black Temple. He'll ask you to help with
6. A Distraction for Akama
...but once you tell Xi'ri you're ready (talk to him after accepting the quest), you can watch a scripted sequence that you do not actually have to help with in any way. After this is finished, talk to Xi'ri again for your Medallion of Karabor and the completion of Black Temple attunement. Congratulations, you can now waltz in to Illidan's latest bachelor pad!

But before you go, the chain continues from Xi'ri with:
7. Seek Out the Ashtongue
Time to start exploring the Black Temple! When you find the Deathsworn, they'll give you
2. Redemption of the Ashtongue
...which requires you to kill the Shade of Akama. Finally you're given
3. The Fall of the Betrayer
Yup, kill Illidan. No problem. Then you're done.

The mobs in this area are extremely annoying. there are literally hundreds of them, with dozens of pats hiding behind walls with huge aggro radii. I highly recommend bringing a buddy for this. its not necessary, but it makes things 1000x easier.

This is a quest involved in the Black Temple Attunement Chain:

The Black Temple attunement starts at The Altar of the Sha'tar for Aldors, and the Sanctum of the Sun for Scryers. Both are in Shadowmoon Valley.

After you finish this chain, you get to pick from some rewards and the chain seems like it ends. It continues however, inside Serpentshrine Cavern (http://www.wowhead.com/?zone=3607) from an NPC called Seer Olum (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=22820) who you can speak with after killing Fathom-Lord Karathress. He starts the next part of the Black Temple Chain by offering the quest:

In this, you need to gain access to The Battle of Mount Hyjal in Caverns of Time, and slay the first boss, Rage Winterchill. Attunement for this involves killing Lady Vashj and Kael'Thas Sunstrider.

For this you must speak with A'dal in Shattrath city.

Unknown what this quest asks of you, most likely you need to defend Xi'ri and make your way into Black Temple. At the end, you become attuned to enter and are granted The Medallion of Karabor (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32649)

At this point, you are attuned and can enter Black Temple, although the chain continues and you can soon upgrade your medallion. It continues with:

After killing the Shade of Akama and returning to Seer Kanai, he asks one last thing of you. Kill Illidan The Betrayer. After doing so, you are granted the Blessed Medallion of Karabor, an upgraded version of your original medallion, and allows teleportation to the Black Temple.

This is an extremely annoying quest, the tablets are too few and far apart, getting them to without a flying mount requires killing dozens of mobs, the tablets are so close to groups that you will always pull at least 2 mobs when you finally find one. Overall an extremely very unbelievably poor quest. Though I still did it, go figure.

Well, i suggest if you do try this quest, that you be careful when pulling the workers, they dont just pull 1 mob! They carry on running around pulling more and more. So be sure to kill them ASAP

The drop rate off the workers is awful. I killed 45 Ashtongue Workers to get 11 of the 12 tablets. Ugh. Horrible.

If soloing, you might want to just stick to the ramp area, just past the front entrance, lined with workers. Slow but safer. Just picked up all mine, took an hour and half though *grumble*

My problem with this quest wasn't the crazy low drop rate for these tablets from the workers (or the fact they were sparse on the ground as well), but my main problem with this quest was the way that a lot of the workers would evade bug when they were almost dead (maybe when they run they run too far away and somehow bug that way?), making me waste mana and have to kill them essentially all over again.

Now let's pair all of that with the way that they could run away and INTO walls and those big rocky clumps all over the area and die within them, where I could no longer see or loot them afterwards. That seemed to make the drop rate that much worse since a big portion of the mobs I killed were then unlootable.

This quest FTL. But hey, xp is xp ;)

i rounded up the whole ramp then used retaliation looted all of them and didnt get 1 single tablet.......very horrible drop rate. if it werent for the fact i wanted to get killed by akama i wouldnt even do this quest lol.

A tip: Dont kill the workers , it IS annoying pulling them , i was a rogue wich could just sneak around and sap whoever i wanted to , and i was like 3 workers and die. too many mobs walking around. Tip for rogues : just look for the tablets that are on the ground , avoid battle.

The Tablets around 60,36 respawns REALLY fast. Atleast they did for me. About 20 secs interval between respawns. Good luck!

This is ASS, i was elemental/resto shaman lvl 68, i went there to get this quest completed , i died 100 times at least and specced back to enchancement so i can beat up more people at the same time , but im still dying all the time! This quest is hard there are lots lots of mobs and those tablets are so hard to get from 5 mob packs. U might need a partner expect rogues or something

I where seriously questioning my class when i was in this area( warrior btw) however its a living hell so its not my class its just them.

Anyway have a smart tactic how to finish the Q, then this is just for the tablet shards. When you enter the ruins at the main entrance you notice a wall along the ramp which leads up to a upper plateau(might be spelled wrong but you do not need to correct me cuz you most likely understand what i mean) However when you have reached the top of the ramp get on the edge of that wall. You will now be standing over the workers. Use some kind of ranged attack to pull them they will come to you and you can fight them on the edge of the wall wihtout any need to worry about some annoying pat or others mobs to interfer.

And be careful so you dont pull some pats along with it, you can most likely handle both of them but its annoying. And at last they will try to run away stop them in their tracks use some form of movement slowing attack.

Edit: the workers will run straight up the wall instead of around it, and not down it when they run away use this too your advantage.

alright, so apparently, u need to complete either Alleigence to Aldor, or Alleigence to Scryers quest, prior to taking this one, as Anchorite Ceyla doesn't offer me dat q, even when im neutral wit aldor and unfriendly wit scryers.

The drop rate from the workers is incredibly low...I had to kill 84 just to get the 12 tablets. Even as an 85 it was tedious. However, I didn't know that you could loot them off the ground as well. That would have been easier so don't be like me :P

1. Tablets of Baa'ri
• Fly to Altar of Sha'tar, Shadowmoon Valley (Outlands), and accept the quest, Tablets of Baa'ri from Anchorite Ceyla, inside the building at 62.3, 29.1.
• Exit the building and travel south, to the Ruins of Baa'ri in the vicinity of coords 59.7, 34.4.
• On the ground you will see a greenish glowing object called Baa'ri Tablet Fragment.
- - Collect 12 of these fragments off the ground around you, which also have a chance to drop off of the Ashtongue Worker mobs.
• Travel back to coords 62.3, 29.1, to the Altar of Sha'tar.
• Turn in the quest to Anchorite Ceyla.

Don't get frustrated like I did trying to start this quest chain. I spent over an hour running back and forth from Shadowmoon to Shattrath, a couple hundred gold, and lots of head -> desk motions to finally figure out what I had done wrong.

In order to pick up this quest, you do need to do 2 things:
1) Do the "City of Light" quest and select your faction.
• This quest is a follow up to one that a Haggard War Veteran (59,41) gives you called "Adal" It's a one and done, very quick, and doesn't require any prerequisite quest to start.

2) You have to have a certain level of reputation with either Aldor or Scryer. (TBD)

I was trying to start this quest on a low-level character for the transmog appearances (lvl 28). I was already friendly with the Scryers since I started as a Blood Elf. I recommend going ahead and just getting Exalted. On my server, Arcane Tomes were about 2g each, and it took me ~112 tomes to get to Exalted. I did this just in case any of the follow up quests required a rep threshold.

Anchorite Ceyla at the Altar of Sha'tar wants you to collect 12 Baa'ri Tablets from the ground and from Ashtongue Workers at the Ruins of Baa'ri.

Completing quests with the Aldor will cause your Scryers reputation level to decrease.

Description

Years ago, the dreaded warlock known as Gul'dan raised the volcano in the middle of Shadowmoon. The draenei village of Baa'ri, to the southwest, was buried under the lava along with its inhabitants and artifacts of religious importance.

The treacherous tribe of Broken known as the Ashtongue has been ordered by Illidan to excavate the area. We must use this opportunity to recover the Tablets of Baa'ri, an ancient text rumored to hold the secrets of the Temple of Karabor, now known as the Black Temple.
