If you are doing the DM Tribute run (as in, not killing any of the named mobs/bosses), Captain Kromcrush's encounter can be completely skipped over (and plus it's fun and entertaining to watch!). If you have someone in your party create the Gordok Ogre Suit (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18258#M0z) and then have someone wear the suit, that person will be able to talk to Captain Kromcrush. After a funny conversation, the Captain will run off, leaving you free to continue on your way. If you do not kill Kromcrush, it adds his "loot" to the Tribute Chest at the end. Don't forget to visit him after you've been "crowned" king and received the "King" bufff -- you will be able to talk to him, and he will give you a quest for DM West called "Unfinished Gordok Business" (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1318).

If you're solo'ing this as a lvl70 shadow priest, bubble + fear the adds, while making sure to keep up the DPS on the boss. It is fairly easy to beat, but can be hard on the mana. I had to fear twice before taking the boss down.

If you are doing a tribute run at 80, you do not need to get the suit. If you hug the right-hand wall when leaving the hallway, he will not aggro.

The reason for the costume is to avoid him until you have the "King of the Gordok" debuff. After that you may get a quest from him that rewards nice blues.

If you skipped the trash before him, his adds will pull them as well, makes for quite an uncomfortable surprise for an unprepared priest...

If your like me and go through the dialogue with him and then decide to try to kill him, Don't. He hit me in the upper 1000s and I could not attack him back.

If you talk to him in the ogre suit, he will run to Guard Fengus's room. Once you become king, you can go there to pick up Unfinished Gordok Business.

To punish higher levels for farming Dire Maul, Blizzard has reduced the drop rate for the Gordok Shackle Key (to open the cache) on the bosses to be equal to any of the other ogres. You must kill all to get a chance to get the key.

Funniest thing just happened when I went to hand in "Unfinished Gordok Business". Instead of taking the reward you can engage in some dialogue mischief...

Captain Kromcrush: What you doin' wandering around here? Why them small fries not in da shackles?

You: Um, I'm taking some prisoners we found outside before the king for punishment.

Captain Kromcrush: Do I see them with weapons still? Why you let them keep their weapons?

You: Er... that's how I found them. I wanted to show the king that they were a threat. Say Captain... I overhead Guard Fengus calling you a fat, useless knoll lover.

Captain Kromcrush yells:Hey, who Fengus callin' a gnoll lover? Take da prisoners to da king; you smart to bring them with their weapons and show da king that they a threat. I'll go see if Fengus talk smack when I give him da beatdown! HAR!

(He then marches back enraged supposedly to confront Fengus, but they don't fight regardless of whether Fengus is already dead or still alive.)

Captain Kromcrush yells: OK Fengus, where you at? You come call me a gnoll lover while I give you da hammer upside da head!

The Captain can now be targeted. If you kill the Captain he summons a hard-hitting (careful lowbies) Guardian and several adds.

So, to hand in the quest I was on, I reset and killed the king again to make the Captain friendly - it also works if you have a Gordok Orge Suit handy.

Just attempted this boss after the shattering. Didn't know one of the party members had the suit. We attempted him 3 times. This is what he does:

Short ranged AOE fear with a long duration so pull him back down the hallway.
Mortal Strike on the tank
At ~50% he calls 2 adds. Either 2 melee, 2 caster or 1 of each.
The caster can sheep and the melee will enrage and hit like trucks.

Our best solution was to pull him back down the hall to about where the bonfire is, CC one of the melee and I spamed flash heal. We lost a rogue, but it worked.

He has his own faction called "Ogre (Captain Kromcrush)" that is to allow only the player in the to see him as friendly and be able to talk to him.
This seems to be the best way to implement this, as modifying flags and making him friendly would make him friendly to everyone and not just the disguised person. :)

I have trouble on this guy every time. Yesterday was the first day i had done this instance in over two years and i had no clue what this guy did. So when he feared us i was right at the end of the tunnel so i got feared into a group in the courtyard area, no problem i could tank them and the healer was doing fine, then he spawned the adds and i hadn't noticed in time so when i got to them the healer was dead. This guy imo is a bit too hard when you don't have reliable crowd control. MS + Fear + Adds...it's just all too much.

Me too very hard to heal through that MS + enraged adds as a druid. I don't have big heals yet at this level. No one seems to want to CC stuff in a leveling dungeon. :(

If you tank him where he spawns then his adds aggro the two packs in the room beyond, so pull him down nearer the fire.

We CC'd adds while burning boss.

Strategy for Captain Kromcrush:

If you don't care about "Tribute Runs" and you aren't farming DM for rep, maybe you got this dungeon in a random and were just curious what to do about this pain-in-the-ars boss. I've died on him an average of 2 times per run on my 50 warrior. I needed some kind of strategy so whatever I worked up I'm writing here will hopefully get you past this dude and onto the easier final boss.

First he has a few abilities listed under abilities (Intimidating Shout or fear, Retaliation, Mortal Strike, Summon Guards). First one I recalled happening was the Shout. It is a fear of a 6 second duration and not everyone will have an anti-fear button to press. For this reason, you must tank Kromcrush in the middle of the long hallway leading to him or be feared into the final room full of ogres and hyenas. FYI the Shout is not a true fear spell, and can't be interrupted by Pummel or whatever interrupts you might have. I'm guessing Counterspell and the like wouldn't work.

Fear seemed to be followed by a Mortal Strike when you are in mid run, so your healer might try a HOT on the tank like a renew or rejuv. Right after you come out of fear, pop your cooldowns because there will be another and you won't be able to use them then. I popped the 3 I had which were: Lifeblood, Healing Pot and Last Stand to increase your health right away and prevent a wipe. (I didn't have Enrage as I'm too low but that would be good to use, warriors). I also have Shield Wall and Shield Block I could use but I would try to save those for Retaliation which is announced in a Raid Warning (stock UI).

Then around this point, Kromcrush is about 50% health and summons 2 sidekicks. They do not go away when the boss dies, but tank can pick them up and all DPS stay on boss to be conservative, with aoe tanking but with rend, TC and 3 Sunders on Kromcrush at all times (I don't know if healer's mana and everyone's health will last through a third fear). Usually during this point you get a second fear and a second Mortal Strike so hopefully you will be hotted up and shielded in some manner.

I do not know if Kromcrush can be CC'd by roots, sheeped or the like, but I do know that he can be Disarmed.

I hope in the future I can do a better job with a strategy for this boss but until I or someone does hopefully someone is helped by this guide. I found him to be the only boss that was hard. The trash here is harder IMHO than most of the bosses and hard to see if you lose aggro since they're much bigger than the party members.

ETA: The above is from a tank's POV, but just did this again at lvl on my 45 priest. Tank kept getting feared then dying, DPS were AOE'ing not single targeting, and I kept dying. I convinced all DPS to single target Kromcrush after 2 wipes. I convinced the tank to pull him back to the bonfire room, since LOS with the room dividers was bad, if after the fear the tank was forced behind that divider wall. What I did different is spam Renew on the tank. Normally I do not spam, but wait for Renew to tick off. I probably doubled my use of Renew, every time it was half ticked off I'd refresh it. Third time worked and we downed him after 2 frustrating attempts. More spam Renew, more shields and straight heals. Even more funny, the Tank used my guide above to help in the fight. Awesome Wowhead moment!

The adds can be sheeped but today Thunderclap broke it so we did not attempt that.

An explanation for the reference to gnolls you can make whilst friendly to him is in the dungeon journal:

"Even among ogres, Captain Kromcrush is infamous for his hair-trigger rage toward anyone who dares to insult him or King Gordok. He crushes dissent ruthlessly, but he has still less patience for those who continue to spread the rumor of his torrid affair with a gnoll long ago."

I don't really like to think about how a relationship between a huge Ogre and a tiny Gnoll worked...

It seems as though there has been a slight spelling mistake in the 6.0.0 remake of Random Dungeons. In the Dungeon Goals, instead of saying "Captain Kromcrush", someone has spelled it "Cpatain Kromcrush"

On our quest to two-man all instances at the appropriate level (prot pally/disc priest) this is the first boss we encountered that we were completely unable to defeat.

Things go just fine until he hits 50%. His fear is annoying but manageable. But then he spawns two adds who spam mortal strike on the tank, and then will most likely fear said tank immediately after doing this. There is far too much damage going on, and the healer can't counter it due to the mortal strike debuff.

On the second and third attempts, the tank respecced into repentance to try to CC one of the adds, but even with one of them CC'd there was simply too much damage going on.

We ended up going back downstairs and getting the ogre suit in order to bypass him -- only one party member can get it, but if you put it on and then talk to the boss, he'll leave and you can move on to the final boss fight.

As of 7.3.5 this buddy (still) happens to be one of those cheeerly pristine diamonds what comes to zone scaling.

- He will cast fear so pull him back to middle of hallway. Otherwise you have high risk of someone getting feared to upcoming pacs.
- He does hit quite hard to begin with AND does mortal strike with obnoxious healing debuff.
- To cheer things up even further, he summons two hard hitting adds that ALSO do mortal strikes with healing debuffs AND spam surrender armor like crazy.

Well. As tank, you are going to die. You can either die miserable death and wipe or not-so-utterly-terrible-bad death if you can cc BOTH adds and hope that you either manage to burn him down fast enough or rest of the group wont wipe and manage to finish the job. But most likely you will die.

After players become the King of the Gordok they can talk with him and he will say:

You da strong one now! All hail to da new king of da Gordok!

Players can respond, "So, now that I'm the king... what have you got for me?" Oddly, he responds with:

Maybe you do better at getting back prized Gordok relic from creepy Highborne prince than da old boss did!

The player can then respond, "This sounds like a task worthy of the new king!", which will close out the text box and finish the interaction.

I couldn't remember if there was an old quest from Kromcrush that involved Prince Tortheldrin, and the quest that Kromcrush does give (Unfinished Gordok Business) has players get a piece of gear from Guard Mol'dar... not the Prince. However, I looked it up, and sure enough, the old version of his quest (Unfinished Gordok Business) had players get the Gauntlet of Gordok Might from The Prince's Chest. It appears that after all these years - despite him obviously knowing that Mol'dar is the current holder of the gauntlet - Kromcrush would still like us to whomp on the creepy elf prince for him.
