After installing patch 3.2, it has come to my attention that my Skinning Knife has transformed into an Unbalanced Axe. I haven't heard anybody else mention it yet, or read anything online, so I guess it's just a freak accident.

And no, I haven't sold it by mistake as it sits in my supplies bag, in the middle of all the pots and bandages ;)

Worgen skinners will have the joy of a free inventory space; their "Flayer" racial removes the Skinning Knife requirement in addition to +15 Skinning and a faster "casting" speed when skinning a mob.

I had this on my druid enchanted with Fiery Blaze Enchant which has now disappeared? Anyone have any idea why? I would never delete my favorite skinning weapon of all time. Did they remove my skinning weapon?

In MoP Beta this now has a +10 skinning enhancement; the Mining Pick has +10 mining and the new Herbalist Spade has +10 herbalism, super news for fresh gathering alts.

Doesn't seem to have to be in your bags anymore. Mine was in my bank and I was still able to skin as a human paladin.

Although these new profession items do not stack with Gatherer, Skinning, or Pip's Skinner etc, they work in the same way that the racial bonuses do, in that they do not change the potential skillups that you will get. (A mob/node that gives a skillup will not go grey if you put this in your bags). They merely change the upper range of your ability to gather.

You should be able to skin without a knife. Although this does add +10 skinning. Good for entering new leveling zones, where your skinning may not be up to par.

Currently bugged; it reads the +10 skill as your ACTUAL skill (ie. 702 instead of 692+10), thus causing mobs to go grey early. I don't know if there are problems like this on other +skill items/enchants at this time. Removing the item from your bags in any way will allow you to continue advancing as normal until you cap OR hit the actual grey-skill level.

Thankfully, the +10 skill still applies beyond classic skill (i.e my Legion Skinning says 100 + 10/100). Due to stuff like the Darkmoon Faire quests ~~now only giving classic skill points (grrr)~~, I'm learning to not just assume that something's going to work.

Edit: DMF was fixed to cover all skill 'levels'.

With the profession revamp you need to place the Skining Knife in the right most slot in your Skinning Journal to gain the +4 skill to skinning
